happy and successful new year to you all!
I generally use a set of QSC k12s with a RCF 902as. This system has served me well and have had no complaints but for a couple of venues I would like a bit more subbage available to me and have an oppurtunity to get a RCF 705as for a lot, lot less than a second 902as. Output spl are similar and the size difference wouldnt matter if they were under my deckstand but would they work well together or is it more complicated than that? I would hope to eventually swap it for another 902as in the future.

They'll be fine. It's all a bit of a complicated way of getting more bottom end though. 1 single 18" would eat both of them for breakfast so that's also a reasonable way forward. A single 18 would be smaller than the unmatched pair but there is the issue of weight - my back will testify that around 45kg without castors is a bit heavy.

Surely a single 18 is a completely different animal with different sound? More air to move so different. And I'm not sure you can generalise about things like that either with regards to one single 18 being better than 2 x 15s.

It's probably too risky. I'll keep my eyes peeled
for a second 902 or maybe I should swap my 902 for the
705? 15" vs 12"....decisions.

I had trouble getting another 705 so had to go out and get 2 905's.

not really. I've used both and an 18 inch will do much as I said. In terms of sound, there is a difference with 15's being perhaps a tad more punchy. But, hats off to rcf, the 18's have similar characteristics, whilst delivering far greater output by moving more air. However, when you go up to the 21 inch rcf with the same amp as the 18 inch 4 pro, it is a bit undefined so most certainly, that is where you would be right to say it was a different animal.
