View Full Version : DJ Guard - anyone else being quoted more than is due?

DJ Guard.

Here's the issue....

Received my renewal notification via post. The premium amount was higher than I expected, and it stated that I had a 20% loyalty bonus in effect too (I've been with them over 10 years). So out of curiosity I tried the instant quote generator on the DJ Guard website and the instant quote received was quite a bit lower than the one I received via post. And if I was to add a 20% loyalty discount on the renewal to the online quote would be significantly lower than the one I received in the mail.

Obviously I'm a little confused. I called up and spoke to the sales adviser and he went through all the details and tried the online quote generator too, and came to the same conclusion as me - that my renewal notification was charging a higher fee than was actually due. He asked me to hold and spoke to his manager. He comes back and states that the 20% loyalty bonus is for new customers only (well, that's surely not a 'loyalty' bonus then?, and if that was the case why does my renewal state a loyalty bonus every year if it's for new customers only?). He then informs me that his manager says I can have an additional 10% off the online quote. So I'm not going to receive the 20% loyalty bonus that I'm sure I'm entitled too, just a 10% one?

Confused? You and me both. I also queried how long this over-charging has gone on. I might have been over-charged last year too as I just paid the premium without working out the figures. They stated my premium was exactly the same last year, which I questioned as it seems I may possibly have been over-charged then too. He stated that premiums were at a higher cost last year compared to this year, so the fee last year was correct.

Really?!?!

I'm just waiting on a manager calling me back.

Can any DJ Guard customers clarify/confirm that their premium is lower this year than it was at last years renewal? As I feel I'm just being mislead and side-tracked again.

If you are a DJ Guard customer please do look closely at your premiums. Use the online generator to see if there is a difference in price, and do work out which discount you are entitled to as I may not be the only one that is being (apparently) over-charged.

That's exactly the way it sounded, and the calculations I have in front of me do suggest that. The sales guy seemed to side-step the questions I had about the loyalty bonus and said the manager would call me back later and clarify my queries. Still waiting on the call back.

None of the facts, figures and conversation I've had with them so far makes any sense at all.

Ok, actually on the phone with DJ Guard just now. The online quote is for new customers, and preferential rates are offered to new customers only. So don't renew, cancel your agreement and re-sign up looks to be the way forward if you want to stay at DJ Guard. This is the case at the moment according to Sonya at DJ Guard.

In that case any loyalty bonus you already have is in essence worthless. She did offer me 10% of the online quote generator price, but it still worked out more expensive than the quote I received at E&L insurance.

I did this with my car insurance. I got a renewal price. I went on money supermarket. The company I'm with send me a quote £400 cheaper. So i phoned them up and they asked for my details. I said you have ready have them and my renewal £400 more.

I went with the money supermarket quote :D

This is exactly the reason I left DJGuard.

What I will say about E&L is that the PLI is not a huge amount (I think mine is about £2million) but they do offer "upgrades" or you can easily bump up your PLI with something like NADJ membership (not a member myself, yet, but this is on my list of things I need to do!).

Pretty sure it said £1m for those paying yearly (which I'll most likely do), and £1.25m for those paying monthly. I'll get separate PLI elsewhere though.

Think i'll move my equipment cover over to someone else, and get my PLI with SEDA :)

Thanks

You always get that with car insurance and this is no different.
I change car insurance every year and usually go though quidco.

The renewal is not usually lower IMO

I am looking for a good equipment insurer any suggestions for in-storage and on the road insurance?

There's a current thread already ( see link below). I'd rather keep this thread related to DJ Guard. Cheers. :)

It was originally £1.25m (as I said, I pay lunar monthly) but they upgraded my policy (without actually telling me - the first I knew was they'd took more money out of my account! When I queried this they said they'd sent me a letter but I never received it). The upgraded policy included higher PLI and I think it was £2m but I'll need to look at my docs to confirm this.

I think all of their monthly policies are "Lunar Months" which means you pay 13 times per year

I dont think running with less than £5m cover is a good idea personally--most places that have ASKED me for PLI want £5m.

If you have to top up as a one off to £5m its a pain in the ...E and not cost effective I would guess because of policy admin fees.

Also these days it covers very little if theres a major incident.

Your House and everything in it is up for grabs if your not fully covered:daft:

I will certainly double check my Music Guard renewal---thanks Shaun:beer1:

I totally agree with you, Alan, which is why I also included the comment

Also, on the other thread, Shaun wasn't asking about just PLI - he wanted to know about policies for equipment insurance, etc. and the E&L policy is perfect for this.

Might try them--had cover with E and L in the 70s when they were market leaders;)

Shaun,
Just curious. Who did you eventually go with? My policy is due up and obviously there's gear depreciation in the quote for a claim but not the policy price. It seems the same as day 1

I went with Hencilla Canworth. http://www.hencilla.co.uk/

I believe Hencilla Canworth underwrite the policy provided by DJGuard anyway (but I'm not sure, so don't quote me).

I gave up equipment insurance after reading the policies in detail and found that there were so many clauses and exceptions that I was hard pressed to find an occurrence where I could have made a claim.

I mean, do you never leave your equipment unattended, or do you always lock your vehicle when loading it?

Although I do have equipment insurance, I actually agree with Matty's comments. The reason being, on the only ever instance I've needed to claim - I dropped an external hard-drive which brought about it's early demise - when I went to claim on my insurance, I was told that my policy had an excess of £100 and my drive was only valued at £89 so they wouldn't pay out. I should have read the policy in more detail!
