Where can I view EV speakers in a shop nearest to Derby?

Hi there,

Hope your all ok and I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section.

I would like to go into a shop to hear the EV ELX speakers but I don't no where the nearest shop is from Derby which stocks them could you help please I have looked but can't find anything. ;)

Nice guys at electro. Used to shop there back when I was a guitarist. They have 2 shops near enough opposite each other. One is guiatar, bass and drum centre... other is piano/keys, live PA and Lighting systems.

Parking is easiest on a side street opposite the guitar centre and is limited to 2 hours waiting (which should be plenty of time).

+1 for Electro. Well worth a visit.

I bought my full PA system from Electromusic in Doncaster. Up this way they are definetely one of the best PA dealers in Yorkshire if not the best. A lot of people speak highly of Electromusic.

I used to deal with a Guy there called Steve Ryan. I dont know if he's still there.

John, I think your getting confused with someone else as Steve Ryan use to own Disco date and Arena sound and lighting in Hull before it went bust.

Not any more, they don't. ;) Back to one. :D Only fairly recently mind, I went there knowing which shop I needed to go to, and it wasn't them any more!! |:eek: Excellent chaps though. Parking can be a bit tricky at times though.

I own EV Live X. You will also need flight cases. Thomann have started doing covers, but those wrap around grills are going to be prone to impact damage.

nice cabs I like them. Tops bass response is not ideal, but as a pro live cab they are focused on mid top delivery and should be paired with bass. Bass have no internal crossover and would recommend DBX drive rack with the system.

All in all with 15 tops, bass, speaker management and cases. Just north of £3k should see you right. I can't see how you can engage that system cheaper and I do own one.

Should be fine as they are 18's and as bass is omnidirectional. Get a powered bass as the push on them would require a second amp.

You will still need a speaker management system and I would recommend flight cases for protection. Swanfight did mine so they have the dims for them already from my build.

Don't get me wrong, but I get the feeling that NKR's system is great for larger events but does really scales down to the smaller events that easy. I get the impression its awesome when setup correctly but isn't really plug and play?? :confused: :confused: Would that be a fair assessment?

That would be how I read it. Also, that without the whole rig, it isn't really suitable for Disco, but superb for vocal work.

I'll properly get the K12 but I need to listen to them first, I will choose one of the shops which has been mentioned or one which is going to be mentioned. :)

Or even the K10's are very good too I have heard.

Think hard about the type of gigs you do and ideally what you need.

40 young kids - 2 x 10"/12" tops would be fine
60 teenagers - you might add a sub
Weddings/21st Birthdays - possibly 2 subs ... depends on numbers and the subs you are using.

Any system scales down okay. It could be run as a dual top and single sub. However, you are not going to get away from needing some form of crossover or management system. I feel the tops lack bass response if used on their own. It scales down by turning the volume slider down.

Superb for vocal work as they have a good sized throat on the HF. I am not sure I would run a disco off them without a sub. They come across a bit mid toppy - but thats what they are.

Others have said the 15's are fine in isolation. You will have to listen. I have a particular sound I look for. I use a live desk more often than not. I am a bit different :daft:

As an aside as we do more larger rooms I am going to add more EV to the system. I am happy with them.
