Although I have been a member for several years, I have not been the most active of posters to this forum. I have, however, spent lots of time reading with interest the many various threads and articles on this forum.
As far as internet forums go for specific interests, I think the Mobilediscodirectory is amongst the best, with a great community of members and an unbeatable place for DJs to get help and advice from. In hindsight, I wish I had joined in more rather than lurking in the shadows.
After 12 years of DJing, I have made the monumental decision to hang my headphones up for good.
Like many DJs, my mobile disco was an additional income, and supplemented my 'day job'. I have been in the same day job, with the same company for 16 years and after a lot of deliberation, decided to move on to another job. Unfortunately, the new role comes with a fair amount of travelling about, and therefore it will not be practical to continue as a DJ.
I will be very sad to say goodbye to my mobile disco business, and have far too many happy memories to recount. I always said I would quit if I ever started to resent the work, and luckily this has never happened. Its good to go out on a high, still enjoying and admiring a good DJ, or disco.
It has been an honour and a pleasure to be a DJ, and to build a business up, retain regular customers and be responsible for the happiness of thousandths of people at all manner of social functions. From weddings to birthdays, company events to christenings, I think I have done them all in that time.
I probably won't miss the late nights and restrictions on family time that DJing demanded, but I will miss the buzz, the excitement at buying new toys (sorry - professional equipment that is absolutely required Mrs BigBash) and the experiences of so many events. I have had the good fortune to work with other DJs, bands, famous celebrities and a host of other professionals in our field. Thank you.
So, to all that may have been to a disco I did, those who know me socially and professionally and friends - Thank you so very much.
I promise not to turn into the "I was a DJ, what rig have you got there... I wouldn't play this song now..." person I know we have all met at some stage, Who knows - I may be back in the future!!!
