The Box Pro Achat 404/112 speaker system

Hello fellow forum members,

I've been on the look out for a lightweight, compact and portable sound system for a while to replace my Mackie SRM 450 V1's with as they are too heavy for my back because it hurts after I've carried the speakers in and out of the venue, and put them on speaker stands etc.

At some of my gigs, I have my dad to help me but he is not always avaliable for every gig so I need something that I can manage myself.

I've been looking at different makes and models of speakers, and I went on to the Thomann website the other night and came across this package - http://www.thomann.de/gb/the_box_pro_achat_404_112_amp_bundle.htm

I think it looks good for the price, and I would buy another one of the amps that comes in the package as a back up.

What are your views on this package guys? Is it worth it? Will it be good enough for a disco enviroment?

I don't normally play to anymore than 150 guests at anyone time and I tend to play in small to medium venues like town halls, golf clubs, and the odd pub every now and again.

Not seen any feeedback for this system but others in the box range did not rate as well a mate of mine was looking at actives and active subs and the box was quickly ruled out. for the money I'd buy a couple of powered subs (db Tech opera 15") and a decent pair of powered RCF's. I use mackie v2's (in thomman trolley bags) and when I need more kick add one or two opera sub 12"'s (could not get the 15's into the motor with everyhting else.

I would like to buy a pair of Bose L1's with four Bose B1's but I simply can't afford it, so I am looking at alternatives to the Bose.

I want something that's small and compact, and also lightweight, but packs a punch in terms of sound quality.

I've read a review from Colin Cook on the LD Systems MAUI28 and he said it was no where near up to disco standard. It's a bit like the Bose L1 compact, good for speeches and background music, but nothing more.

Don't buy any more speakers and get to the gym ;) No offence Tom, but I know plenty of people (some of them only young ladies who sing) that have no problem lugging mackies about. It they are a serious problem buy a trolley/stair climber sack barrow type contraption.

TBH, I'd say if Jason's using them, there can't be much wrong with them

The Box Subs from Thomann are the ones that I was looking at originally to go with my Mackies. I heard them on the go with some V1's in Guildford when I went to see Mr Takeiteasy when I bought the ADJ Megabars and they sounded great.

Talking of the Mackies being heavy - I don't think they are and I have suffered with back problems over the years (don't we all?). Saying that, my V2's are light compared to the V1's. I was helping one of my DJ's set up over Christmas at a regular venue and she has V1's and they are a lot heavier than mine.

I think you've got the 450V2's though Charlie which are over 5kg each lighter that the originals that Tom has.

The active systems these days are so light as you also have an amp to haul about with the one you mentioned.
I picked up a DB one not long ago and they weigh next to nothing. easily lift on with one arm.

Oh sorry I mainly picked up the heavy bit. Your 18 beats going down the gym, just keep a straight back and use your knees.
