Being a more successful disco

Following recient threads, thought I would post a pole to see what the general feeling was.

Before you start, I am already taking it as read that we have working equipment and our show is "neat", regardless of how much that gear cost.

So what do you think will make you more successful?

Are we talking an indigenous inhabitant of Poland here, or the type of implement that you wouldn't touch something with, that belongs on a barge?

I feel it needs an all round view here. You do need good sound and good lights, but if you dont know how to please a crowd in the first place you may as well quit. Having a varied collection will help, but you do need to know when to change and chop styles as well as speak on a microphone clearly. No flashy lights will make you look good if you have a lisp or cant read to find your music. Not good sound will not do you any favours if you playing muffled tunes

Basically you need all bases covered but they have to be covered one at a time preferably in this order

1. Sound
2. Lighting
3. Music
4. Entertainer

Yep you cant do any discos without any of the first 3 and if you aint the 4th give up its not for you

Well i would vote for "being a better salesman" if the option was there... this way, i could get better money and therefore be more sucessful.

I'm constantly building up music and learning more anyway - but its just making the customers see what you are worth. I've quoted a higher price than this years for about 10 wedding enquiries for next year. Only two have booked, compared to about a 70% convertsion rate last year at the lower price (and we're talking a difference of £25 here!)

You never up your prices til you cant handle your work load or you want to move away from certain elements of clientel. If your reputation isnt great your price should reflect this. But your price should be your std to a quality night so be proud of it.

You could be the best salesman in the world but if your not within someones budget you will not win either way. We are very much almost the last thing on many brides to be list of things to do, and more so on an event like a birthday disco

Yep.. but being a good salesman can convince people to spend more on a disco. I mean, alot of people won't have booked a disco before, so don't know how much they should expect to pay.. its just up to you to convince them to spend more than your cowboy DJ charges for a better service!
