This is a very popular news story on BBC at the moment. Top ten songs played at Funerals.

Okay, let's say you are about to pop your boots and go to DJ heaven, what song would you like played at your funeral?

My own choice would be Queen- Who wants to live Forever.

The Top ten are actually:

1. Goodbye My Lover - James Blunt
2. Angels - Robbie Williams
3. I've Had the Time of My Life - Jennifer Warnes and Bill Medley
4. Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler
5. Pie Jesu - Requiem
6. Candle in the Wind - Elton John
7. With or Without You - U2
8. Tears in Heaven - Eric Clapton
9. Every Breath You Take - The Police
10. Unchained Melody - Righteous Brothers

When I pop my clogs, I want

The Ovalteenies and Wish Me Luck As You Wave Me Goodbye.....

Really - I do - I like the song and thinks it'd be a fun way to go...

Hmmm--wonder who they interviewed--the top choices sound a bit new, must have been chosen by the children.

Most people in my age group probably dont know who James Blunt is--- :teeth:

Knock Knockin on Heavens Door-- Bob Dylan--- wheres that then?

I would want everyone to be happy, rather than sad - a funeral should be a celebration of someone's life :)

But that really depends on their age and the manner of their death I would have thought?

I knew, I KNEW as soon as I saw the topic for this thread it wouldn't stay sensible for long :teeth:

For me if I get cremated it'll have to be - The crazy world of Arthur Brown and 'Fire' , or 'Light my fire' by Amii Stewart.

Should I get buried then maybe Motorheads 'Ace of Spades' or 'Going underground' by the Jam

On a more serious note I want 'My girl' by the Temps for my daughter

Yeah, I know, but even so...

OK, if I had to pick a 'tragic' song, they don't get any more emotional than I Know It's Over by The Smiths.

Even more appropriate as the main line is : "Mother, I can feel the soil falling over my head" :omg:

The best I've heard was at the funeral of a chap who was a regular of a pub I used to work in. He was very into '40s swing, the coffin arrived & we followed him down the aisle the crem sound system burst into life..............................

Glen Miller - In the mood

He had specified this in his will & it put a smile on everyones face at what otherwise would've been a sad occasion

That's exactly what I was getting at! When I die, I want everyone to be happy for me, and celebrate what I was, and what I had achieved! I would hate to think of anyone miserable and depressed about it, and would like to think they would all get p***** and talk about all the stupid things and embarrassing things I'd done! :teeth: :embarasse

Although I agree that a funeral ought to be a celebration, I am beginning to think that I am the only person who hasn't actually thought about or planned their own funeral!!!!

I have a theory on that!

As we all know, women plan and imagine their wedding from when they're little girls...

Well maybe men do the same, for our funerals? :)

And the two are obviously connected.. ;) :omg:

I think I'll be carried in to S-Club's "Reach for the Stars" with explicit instructions that the congregation must do the actions and I'll go out, heading for the soil, to Peter Cook and Dudley Moore's "Goodbyeeee!".

I've actually stated on my funeral requests "Loads of flowers and no wearing black and those who do wear black will be asked to change!". Only hymn I want, bit of a family tradition, is "All Things Bright and Beautiful" because it's one of the few that most people know.

In the last couple of years we have had a few funerals in the family.

Music used :-

For Carol's aunt the exit from church to My Way.
Another aunt her favourite Matt Monroe track.
A cousin had Hi Ho Silver Lining ( it was his and his wife's song)

My sister had Danny Boy (family tradition, look at the words) and Boyzone - No Matter What.

The music for this is a very personal thing.

This is true--I recently heard that a Lorry driver who died had " Hit the road Jack" played at his funeral---its not clear if his name was Jack though!

Id like Crazy by Patsy Cline at my funeral----Gnarls who??????????????????

Sleep When I'm Dead by Bon Jovi!

But as I'm not planning on dying... I'll just sleep for a long time!

Apparently you can't die when you sell your soul to some guy with goat feet and horns!
