New Light Setup

Good Evening Guys,

I'm looking for a new lighting set-up to replace my 2x Abstract Twister 4 1ce, 3x Chauvet Mini Moon and Acme ilaser

I currently have a residency in a pub every sat night but would also like the set-up to be ok for parties etc

my lighting set up is fairly old so would like something more modern looking however will not have a huge budget due to saving for my own wedding

any recommendations would be great :) as i know very little regarding lighting

Seriously, lighting is a real can of worms!

Look at flexibility. The LED Par cans we were discussing last night are super bright and can be used for uplighting or on a bar or with 4 units. 2 on each.

Also look at taking control of your lights. A DMX controller is a little over £50 but is a worthwhile addition as you actually need less lights.

Look for a combination of wash (pars) and movement. If you are going LED, there are some new moonflowers, scanners and moving heads. If you are staying with bulbs, then the Martin EFX500 offers a lot of bang per buck and because they are heavy there are always units for sale.

Finally take a look at some of the new cluster lasers that offer patterms too. These offer a lot of fill for ceilings and walls.

Hi Guys any more suggestions on this I would also like some ideas on ideal wedding set-ups for lighting as looking at expanding into this soon any advice would be great appreciated, Dave has kindly offered some advise and I would like some opinions from you guys :)

Twister 4s...cant really go wrong with, so I would keep these.

Cluster Lasers are great space fillers. DJ Kit have the Laser Uk Star elements which is impressive.

And I agree with Dave, look at some wash...maybe a pair of LED pars.

Thanks for the info guys there are just so many options out there and will be on a limited budget unfortunately - I have to agree i like the twister 4 expect one of them keeps blowing a lamp every other week in the pub, so need to get the lamp holder changed I think.

An easy enough job...just remember to use ceramic chocolate blocks...the plastic ones melt ;)

I agree very good lights with great coverage just a shame one of mine keeps blowing the lamp

Overly short lamp life is often caused by weak sockets, and changing them is is usually not complicated. As stated earlier, using ceramic connectors rather than the standard plastic ones is vital in some fixtures, due to the temperature inside the unit.

Re suggestions for lights, well regular readers will know what's going to be my first suggestion. Yup, the good old Stairville Powerbar from Thomann. It can do movement ( chase ) , or static colour , and if DMX'ed can be dimmed and otherwise controlled.

Couple this with two scanners and a laser, or two moonflowers and a laser, and you can cope with anything. That totals four units, so not really excessive, in my humble opinion.
