BT infinity

Doe anyone use BT infinity and is it worth me switching over to it or is it just a sales hype?.

I find it very confusing because Virgin seem to offering a similar thing.

They're all as bad as each other IMO.

Our Virgin internet has been shocking recently and the TV box hasn't been behaving. I think BT still hold the traditional values of good customer service and delivering a decent product, although they've fallen behind the times.

Has anybody actually had experience of BT infinity, or is everyone just going to treat this as a BT-bashing thread? (After all, you'd get complaints no matter what telecom company was mentioned)

We have gone from 2mb to 20mb download service, so far so good:)

What ADSL service were you on before and who was it with ?

Great Yarmouth isnt on the map for Infinity yet but Caister (village 3 miles north) and Gorleston (town 3 miles south) are both due to have Infinity from March this year.

I live in the middle of Great Yarmouth about 7 mins walk from the exchange and get BT Total Broadband at 16.8 down and 1 meg up. Will have to see what happens when Infinity is available here.

Was the same speed here before we switched to Sky, and that was with BT....

Good to know there was a definate improvement. At work we are about 3km from the exchange and can only get 4Mb maximum on copper.

With Infinity (aka Fibre to the Cabinet) only 2 months away we should be able to get much better broadband as the office is only 50 metres from the cabinet :)

That was my thoughts, but the increase was too good to turn down for only £3 per month extra....

Allegedly BT Infinity is the dogs thingies, unfortunately being slightly rural, i've got another twenty year wait. Before you run a service down check out your location, I use SamKnows dot thingy, then put in your exchange code and away you go.

I have had 40MB BT Infinity for about 1 1/2 years now - luckily, the place I'm in was on the edge of the 7 miles limit from an exchange so had terrible "ordinary" broadband eg: we were lucky to get 1.5mb speeds (I could have written my emails on my hand and walked to the recipient faster...) - The lucky bit meant that our area got chosen by BT as one of the pilot schemes for Infinity.

Speed has been superb, regularly hitting the 39.7 sort of speeds, and we can watch different iPlayer streams around the house simultainiously without re-buffering pauses etc, and still use fast internet etc.

One of the reasons that I went to BT was that when I was a Virgin
customer, and "something" went wrong, virgin would blame BT, BT would blame virgin, and I spent hours phoning both of them telling each what the other said... back and forth. Now, if there was an issue (havent had one yet, BT would just talk to BT... I know its different departments and openreach and all that jazz, but BT talk to BTopenreach far more readily than BT would talk to anyone else.

So, do I like BT Infinity? yes? Am I happy with BT as an Internet service provider? Yes? Would I like a better monthly rate? Yes.... Do I have a taxi coming in 10 minutes and want my request played next?.... opps sorry, wrong thread... :lol:

My mum had infinity and couldn't get anywhere near what they were offering. They then turned round 6 months later and told here she should never of had it in the first place!

My father in law has the Infinity service. He can pick up the wireless even on the 3rd floor. One of the kids sits on xbox live 24/7 while others can still watch youtube with out re buffering. All in all its ok.
Whether its as good as they make out on the commercials I dont know, the only other service I have had anything to do with was AOL and thats....well another story :(

:D Have a look at my exchange - Ref: THRD. It's a wooden box at the side of the road, and I'm on the out limit of it. I asked about Infinity, they said no, but have BT Vision and a Hub3 on us, no complaints here.
