But I won't buy them until I can get them for max £100 and I will probab,y retire before then so maybe not, ha ha.

They certainly will do a great job at the base of marquee centre poles when we cannot get cables to them.

They will make the whole process a lot quicker, and I agree...they could go walkies very very easily....but then again...so can most things ;)

That concept has been around for a while both in the states and the far east.
We did have a look at bringing over a battery powered wireless unit from the states which has a very small footprint.
Whilst the idea is good in principle, the thing that has been causing the Americans trouble is frequency interference and also the units being stolen which we think would be the same over here.
So if your going to chain it to a post then is it really worth it?

I used some wireless led up lighters last summer for a string of marquee gigs - they were cleverly recharged by storing them back in their flightcase, which then itself plugged into a wall socket.

Great idea especially with wireless dmx but pricey and wireless dmx doesn't always work well for very very slow fades and colour transitions etc.

A tidy way of securing them would to use a high quality suction pad(like a sat nav but better)and a keylock on the actuating lever.This cab be attached to the skirting board.

That may be so, but you always get 1 numpty who thinks its funny. In any case if someone tried to nick one of mine, the rest of them would cut out as they are linked so that would draw attention.

The battery ones you could just pick up and walk out with it without anyone notising or giving a damm.

I'd rather someone nick a £30 one than a £300 one!

People are sheep, it only takes 1 to do something and others follow.

Take the riots as an extreeme example, Doctors, Solicitors, teachers, etc etc, otherwise pillars of the community - all took part. What was thier excuse "everyone else was doing it"

Why do people have punch up's at weddings? Starts with a small arguement between 2 people, before you know it everyones at it.

Mood lighting - someone discovers that they can be picked up - before you know it, everyone has one. What happens to them then?? Hopefully at £300 each they carefully put them down where they found them. Or they will be nicked or trashed.

Someone has a stupid hat or wig, everyone wants it. Same thing!!

One of my wedding venues had 6 table decorations nicked last year....they wernt small either....4ft high shrubs with battery operated fairy lights....go figure..

A lot harder than a free standing unit.

You must be able to see my logic? It's all about what people can get away with.

If somebody tripped on one of your plugged in uplighters, more than likely it wouldn't go anywhere.

If some goons tripped on a free standing unit, it would move quite a bit therefore encouraging people to kick it, pick it up and shine it in each others faces or take it home for a joke.

Also, the base that holds my uplighters is quite awkward, whereas this is a all in one unit.

I could see people picking them up and using them around the venue on the dance floor etc when drunk. The amound of those battery powered displays on tables ive seen used the same way would make me think twice.
Mind you same goes for chair bows. Any one on here not seen a woman pick one up and tie one round their waist or as a sash then walk off with them.

I quite like the idea. Looking at theft from a different point of view, you could position these at the last minute and collect them in with ease and speed so the amount of time they are left unattended is reduced. Also, the reduction in time laying and securing cables and the reduction of associated risk is very, very attractive.

Just for static colours, I wonder how easy it would be to knock one of these? If I remember, I'll get a colleague DJ onto it - he's a genius - he made his own animated starcloth!

I would get one of these and bolt one of the £60 transmitter/receivers too it.
They are excellent.

Would prefer to wait a few years and they will be the size of the current wired units.

With the theft thing - Thats the reason I have never gone for LED external lighting.
its just to easy for someone to nick them. Bang £2000 down the drain.

Doubt my kind of clients would nick them indoors as they are generally quite nice.
- i would be conscious of kids running off with them.
