I am getting a new phone next week (Samsung Galaxy S) and it's the first smartphone I've owned. Can Android users recommend any "must have" apps? Not games though, I don't do :Censored: games :)

Ive just remembered some too...

I use the CrurveFish (thats the developer) widgets to turn things like WiFi, Bluetooth, Mobile Interenet etc on/off with one click.

I purchased my first few Android apps a few days ago (on a Samsung Galaxy Nexus)....

SwiftKey (https://market.android.com/details?id=com.touchtype.swiftkey&hl=en) - £2.49. Excellent keyboard :)

Tasker (https://market.android.com/details?id=net.dinglisch.android.taskerm&hl=en) - £3.99. Wow! Absolutely amazing app which automates anything you like. Bit of a learning curve but there are lots of downloadable profiles which work well. So far I've got my phone to send an automated reply to texts when I'm driving (http://tasker.wikidot.com/autorespondwhiledriving) with "I'm currently driving at xxxMPH and will respond when it is safe to do so", to automatically have WiFi enabled if I'm at home (http://tasker.wikidot.com/turnonwifiathome), to automatically open the music app when headphones are plugged in (http://tasker.wikidot.com/headsetlaunch) and to return to the home screen when they're unplugged, and to automatically switch bluetooth off when no paired devices have been connected for 3 minutes (http://tasker.wikidot.com/bluetooth-auto-turn-off). £3.99 is a fair bit for an app but the possibilities are endless!

Got my phone yesterday and I am having great fun :confused: setting it up.

Pretty well sorted now but I have a big problem with the Kies software. I eventually want to update the OS to Android 3 or 4 but the Kies software is absolute rubbish and I would be really worried using it for file transfer let alone firmware updating.

Does anyone have any words of wisdom on the subject :)

Yesterday I discovered a serious flaw in my "Auto text response when driving" profile in Tasker :eek:

Think I'll have to add a line: -

if (speed > 70) {
speed = 70
}

I was in a 40 zone for the first one, and a motorway on the second one...

There must have been something wrong with the phone's GPS, your honour ;)

Just got Android 4.1.1 (Jelly Bean) on my Galaxy Nexus :)

Google Now and the voice search stuff is amazing and works really well even with a scottish accent :)
