Just received a note from ebay awarding me a Yellow Star.

Yippeeee! Yee-ha!!!! Get out the champagne

Apparently its put in front of my name and buyers can be confident of dealing with me because it signifies that I have done 10 sales and received 10 positive feedbacks--so I am someone to be TRUSTED :)

UNLIKE ebay

I have BOUGHT 10 items and GIVEN 10 positive feedbacks.

Easy mistake to make? lol

And to think I actually trusted them and set up one of these Pay Pal accounts---which I dont understand yet.

So now I can SELL stuff to people who will think I am TRUSTED even though I have sold absolutely NOTHING.

I really wonder about those stats that show the Sellers feedback record

You have been warned--

Dont believe much of what you read

Paypal... what a nightmare. I am good at accounting and all that but Paypal is very confusing and annoying. After spending so much you have to authenticate your bank account in which they put 2 Direct Debit amounts in your bank account.
I got £9 of bank fees for the pleasure.

There is also a forum on Ebay that can help with any queries you do have.

Magic--how did you get £9 bank charges?

Youve got me worried now--my two deposits are just going through--and I now discover I dont need to set up an account at all-

I just pay by credit card

I pay via my bank account. My bank charged me £4.50 for each DD.

but over here the banks charge fees for everything ... it's Rip off N.Ireland over here so you might not get fee'd

sorry for raising your blood presure. :teeth:

Going back to your original comment Alan.... you may have only bought things, but the Sellers also leave feedback for you as to how good you were to deal with. The feedback you leave isn't counted towards your score..... it's the feedback the sellers have left for you that counts. (ie you paid promptly, etc)

i've been using paypal for over a year now and have had no problems with it, i use both my bank account and credit card through it and have not been charged for the use of either.

I also have a yellow star (downloaded the certificate and everything Yea Har!!! lol) and have even bought stuff from people who had no stars at all, yes the star system is a nice way of seeing what other people have done, but i never buy anything of ebay without going through the sellers feedback, looking for the red marks against them to see why they got them.

Not had too many problems with ebay. But it is a NIGHTMARE when you do have a problem/question as they just send set text and don't actually answer what you asked!! They are just a huge untouchable (well almost) company!!

A couple of probs with Paypal - when people have paid using stolen credit cards or someone elses paypal account. I worked out Paypal actually PROFIT from fraudulent transactions!!

With the feedback you can see feedback left by 'sellers' or 'buyers' if required.

I've had close to 300 transactions (about 20 of those were me buying, the rest selling) and have a Blue star! :p

It's just common sense when trading on ebay. Definately research into the seller - don't just go by the feedback score, espcially if spending alot of money.

The problem with the feedback system is that if you leave a negative chances are you will receive a negative!

I love ebay, been buying (mostly), selling (occasionally) for 3 years or so now.

I have a red star (1926 feedback score (100%)

As a seller, I've only had 2 people that I reported as non paying bidders.
As a buyer, I always check the sellers feedback before I bid.

Never had a problem with paypal.

Thanks for the information which has cleared up some points I didnt understand previously.

It just seems a strange system that they give me a Yellow Star which I see now has resulted from feedback from Sellers (as Angela pointed out) after 10 purchases. All glowing references I notice :teeth:

The bit I dont get is this--if I had some negative feedback from Sellers--like took ages to pay---disputed things etc cheque bounced etc. how does that
affect anything?

If I decide to bid for an item now--and I have bad feedback is there a way the seller can refuse to accept my winning bid because im bad news?

If not then it seems meaningless--if you see my point.

On the other hand if sellers can block bids from buyers with bad feedback then thats different ( and understandable)

Also --why do I need a Paypal Account--when I just pay with a credit card or is that for people without debit or credit cards--yes theres a load of stuff on the website but I would rather hear it from someone who can explain it simply---

Is it to avoid fraudelent use of credit cards when selling?

Anyone?

Thanks again

Paypal is like the middle man. You wouldn't want to give out your card number etc. to just anybody.
You can load your Paypal account from your bank account, or debit card.
Also, if you decide to sell stuff you can be paid into the Paypal account too.
As a buyer I tend to bid on stuff that payment method accepted is paypal. I don't like sending cheques.

Thanks Kaz, fair point on the credit card but I thought these days you wouldnt get far unless you either supplied the pin number or the three digits on the back?

Sending cheques--whats the problem with that--I do it all the time!

Thanks,

crazy some sellers on ebay will delete bids from people with bad feedback however this is usually stated on the listing its self. also people tend to put this maybe ended at any time due to it being listed elsewhere as well .... this covers the seller if someone emails and offers them 10000 for their second hand vasto they can simply terminate the auction ..... or if with 2 mins to go their whole rig is only fetching 2 quid..... i know people who seriously set egg timers to get a last second bid in on ebay.

So when I get an email saying Pay Pal have arranged with my bank to put two small amounts of money in my new pay pal account how long does that take?

Looked on my Personal Internet Bank statement just now---nothing showing a transfer out to pay pal

Magic?

Kaz?
