Simon Cowell’s Syco Entertainment has unveiled the format of an all-new show: a live, international contest to "find the world’s greatest DJs".

I know that anything that Simon Cowell touches seems to turn to gold, but is this a step too far? Will this make the next big DJ?

I reckon it will better than we expect and the DJ's will have various tasks like doing a remix and demonstrating other technical skills as the show progresses.

The DMC mixing championships years ago were excellent fun to watch with DJs using bikes to scratch and mixing blindfolded.

Not sure this would be the same with DJs mixing tech house....

I agree this will be about highly technical areas of equipment employed in Night Clubs, Ibiza type Dance scene etc I would assume.

Not your local Wedding where incidentally I believe Steve and many others of us on here would be far more effective.

5) The advanced spatial awareness test-fitting a full roadshow, with at least ten lightscreens, and eight cabs into the space left by the band.
6) Treasure Hunt- Finding the person with the envelope containing your fee at the end of the wedding.

And the final task-
7) One DJ and his Dog- Rounding up the Photographer, Bride, Groom, Parents, against the clock.

Im guessing this would be suited more to scratch/turntablist type dj's as opposed to watching someone mix full length versions of dutch house! But as funkymook said, production will probably come to it too.

I wonder if we'll end up in a similiar situation to us singers.... I was once asked if I "minded" singing sets either side of a slot by a former X-Factor finalist (top 7/8 from several years ago?).

This "celebrity" singer was allegedly being booked to sing 3 songs during the evening party (via my PA, if it had gone ahead) for something like £5-600.
For THREE songs.

Hence, they asked, could I lower my fee for my 2x45 mins.....
I will leave it to your imaginations to detirmine my response.

Can you imagine a finalist from this DJ-Idol thing turning up to mix 3 songs at a wedding? "Hang on, Slack Boy Slim, mate....I've already played Party Rock Anthem...." LOL.

Assuming the general public have the final say as to who the best dj is. It'll be intresting to see what the public are looking for in a dj.

I can't see how this will appeal to anyone other than djs. I don't think the public will give a flying rats whether a dj has the ability to beatmatch/scratch and have 5 turntables all going at the same time. Whilst looping in and out.:D :D

Awesome. I think this is a better show and we should try and arrange an MDD event during next years BMP as a Youtube pilot. Obviously some of the above would not be possible, but it would be a giggle.

After thinking about this, I've decided I might give this ago. However, I'm stuck on what my audition routine should be. I need to decide between the following:

Option 1. Pre-record my audition in the style of David Guetta so I can wave my arms in the arm shouting "Whoop! Whoop!" and "Get on the floor!".

or

Option 2. Car-crash-mix the Macarena in to The Birdy Song whilst dropping in the opening beats of Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep.

Which option would you take?? :D

Just spotted this thread today and saw the above...

If it's anything remotely like X-Factor, the general public only really get to call the shots in the final. X-Factor is sooo fixed.

They'll get rid of someone who is a good singer just so that they don't leave a judge without an act. It's all about the judges - how many times have you heard the judges say "I'm going to win this year" - no mention of the acts at all. Grr I :Censored: hate that show with a passion!!!

Rant over - but just to say, I may watch the first couple of shows but won't go out of my way to watch it. :)
