View Full Version : How to light .. Heythropp Park
Ok, so I have a wedding end of March (first under the Warwickshire Wedding DJ brand).
I've just been to look at access and the room.
I have 6 uplighters, 2 EFX500 and a couple of lasers to use.
First thoughts were to try and get the uplights onto those raised sections on the left and right of the stage as any uplighting will be lost in that deep red.
Dancefloor lighting will be provided by the EFX500 on stands at each side of the stage.
I was also thinking because I will have space behind me of shooting a laser over my head up to the ceiling.
EDIT: For sound I really want to get the subs at ground level, but this looks practical either side of the stage.
What do you think?

There's some nice pillars there you can uplight, but there's a lip at the top so the light will kind of stop halfway up the wall if you see what I mean?
The stage is semi-circular so you could have the subs at each side and still have the dance floor flush against the front of the stage.
Access wise you have either a bit of a carry from the front doors (I'd take a trolley) or fire escape ladders to go up.

Yeah I see. I was thinking of pulling them forward to light up the whole arc in the raised area to the left and right of the stage, the white /cream bit.

Front doors with a trolley looks the best bet. Looking at folding flat bed trollies right now!!
Definitely use a Trolley! I've worked Christmas season there a few years back and your load in, from the side doors of the main reception is approx 150-200 metres.
Why would you neccessarily want the subs on the floor? (just out of interest)

Worth booking a car parking space......and then leave plenty of time for a long load in when they forget...

That's the older function room, the new Ballroom is at the other side of the complex and is owned by Crowne Plaza...

I want the subs on the floor to eliminate possibility of 'boom' which I have been suffering with on the last few gigs. I think the size of the room will help but want to eliminate possibilities up front.

I think the room is fairly good acoustically, and used to like how we sounded in there, using two tops, two subs and both with a full floor and an empty one (soundchecking of course!). I've also see the room uplit by an events company and they used the rim/shelf bits running the length of the room, they were also using some pretty heavy weight uplighters.
As for the room, I like it too....always reminded me of The Shining on a frosty night though :D
Will this trolley suffice. I can fit 2 subs on this, so in theory the sound system is one trip.

... or should I get the smaller one as half my stuff is in bags ie. a bit unstable when stacked?
That'l be ideal, we used a smaller trolley to take a speaker stack at a time. You don't have any steps as such, just a few door frames to get through.
Are your definitely on the stage? It has been known for the venue to assume we'd go to the right, playing across the room (I MUCH prefer playing straight down the room!)

Yes...None. There is no backstage bit as such, the curtain covers a flat wall (that they sometimes project onto) You'd probably be best to take boxes back out to the car/van.

Hmm. So i need to take the overhead then rather than tripods because there isn't going to be a great deal of depth by the looks of it!

The stage is semi circular, approx 6m at its widest, and 3m at its most protruded, you'll have ample room for Tripods in any case.
