Just out of interest who gives discounts to charities?
And how much would you normally give them off..

I think this is a tricky subject. It all depends on the cause, how much you are charginng etc in the first place

We did one recently, Friday morning at 9.30am of all times. We only charged £50 for a two hour slot. The only problem, is they usually want to pay by cheque, with no deposit up front, especially if they are a well know charity or company sponsoring the charity.

You should be able to trust a cheque from a charity or business account surely though???

Its a tough one this, i've done a couple of charity things in the past and quoted slightly less for them. I guess it all depends when the bookings are - I wouldn't really want to be out for anything less than normal in wedding season or at christmas.. but in the quiet months or for midweek bookings i guess it can't hurt to get a bit of exposure..

I always take a deposit just in case... and I think 10 to 20 quid of a disco at say maybe 170 so i did it for 150 would be good enough.. it needs to be worth my while.. or i could stay at home and have a jollie anyway without the stress.

I was just wondering if other people offered huge discounts really.. I mean i know it is good for publicity but if they want it for stupidly cheap they can just go somewhere else too be honest.

It is indeed a sensitive one.. I have done charity events many times before, some for free and some they paid me full whack without even discussing it (I was a bit miffed at that, they had left the money behind the bar for me)

The other thing to consider is, that the venue never offer a discount, nor do the staff take a cut in wages. I know that is a bit different, as they have to make a living, but so do we?

We used to do charity rates then someone said to me:

"Everything is for charity in the end, why should our income be lowered because of a charity event"

If I want to give to a charity, I will do so, however I won't be pressured into it by clients.

Cheers for the input.. it is a tricky one..
I certainly wouldn't give a discount if I had other normal enquiries.. although I may give 10 - 20 off.. depending on the type of event.
