Recently bought a new 4th gen ipod touch, got it home went to hook it up to iTunes and surprise surprise.........

"The iPod is not compatible with this version of iTunes, please update to the latest version"

My version wasnt that old, only 10.2 so I had no choice but to upgrade to 10.5

Everything appeared fine until I went to purchase a free app and was told my billing method had been declined. So I checked my card details and the card security number box was blank and would not allow me to re-enter the number. Tried everything to get around this but it just would not have it. Contacted Apple support which was no help what so ever, they told me to try things I had already tried time and time again. Then they suggested it was a problem with my card so contact my bank.
Did this and they told me the card was fine and theres no reason why it shouldnt work so they sent me back to apple.

After looking for many hours on the net, it turns out theres a bug in the new itunes which means any details entered into the itunes store also have to be entered in to the online website store aswell. Didnt even know there was one, never had to log on there before. So I logged into my online account, removed the card details, re-entered them and then went back to itunes and tried the security number again and it finally worked meaning I could download some free apps.
In all the years I have been using itunes, I have never once needed to go to the online account and change details. Apple never even mentioned this to me.
The card was working fine a few hours before I upgraded to 10.5 !

Thats why I hate upgrading itunes because of :Censored: like this, but when you buy a new device it leaves you with little choice.

All that fuss just to download a free app.

So anyone having the same problem with 10.5, bear in mind you will also need to confirm your details on the Apple website.

I was told the best (and most secure) method is to never give Apple your card details, and always just credit your account using iTunes vouchers.

I've always jailbroken my iPhone, no problems with iTunes or the App store then. I even use CopyTrans to put songs on it and a iPhone browser to put new ringtones and stuff. But as I recently reinstalled Windows on this laptop I might have a problem like this as well if I do use iTunes as I downloaded the latest version last week. I'm off to check the version number now !

What does it mean to Jail break ? Is it something to do with the firmware ?

Problems with Apple?? I've always been under the impression that everything to do with Apple was beyond perfect and nothing ever goes wrong!! :D

A "jailbroken" iPhone is a hacked iPhone. Apple mysteriously decided to limit the use of it's iPhone and the only way around it is to have the phone hacked. For example, the iPhone 4s has Bluetooth but it's absolutely pointless as you can't connect it with other BT devices other Apple hands free kits or BT keyboards. Bit strange, that decision!

If you have an Apple store nearby, pop in there. I have 2 near me and both are great, really helpful and very quick to resolve most issues.

I manage to connect my iPhone 4 (jailbroken) with the wife's Nokia car kit and my BT headphones (which also has a handsfree function)

But I really can't understand why Apple would utilize BT and then physically prevent the wireless system from doing what it was intended to do. That's a bit like me creating a TV with 1000 channels but limiting use to Channel 5 only. It's absurd, really.

Dazzy, read my post, I have had it connect to 3 BT devices, my BT headphones which are made by a company calle iLuv, a Nokia car kit, and a Nokia ear thingy. I know people who have connected to thier computers via BT as well. There are apps for BT as well, both Apple and Jailbroken ones.

I did read your post! I still don't see the point of having to modify a device to access a facility that is included with the device in the first place.

The ex's oldest daughter got an iPhone 4s for Christmas and asked me to put some songs on it which I easily did with iTunes. However, a song I put on was a favourite of her mother who tried to have it BT'd to her LG Cookie. At the time I didn't know that this wasn't possible with an off-the-shelf iPhone 4s (or other Apple devices for that matter) which got me quite frustrated as I wasted a fair bit of time trying to figure it out and not knowing at that time that straightforward BT data transfer wasn't possible. The whole point of BT is to make data transfer easy and accessible so I find it crazy that Apple should take a widely accepted and agreed standard and then stifle it to suit themselves. Instead, if they insist on interconnecting Apple devices with strictly only Apple-approved devices, then, imo, they should have developed their own wireless data transfer technology rather than hijacking an already-agree standard.

There is a reason why though! Sending music via bluetooth between friends means apple could loose out on revenue with the music store. Also I find that with BT that its horrifically slow. With iOS5 you can sync your iDevice through your wifi! No need to pish about with BT and USB. JB an iDevice was popular back when they came out as they lack a load of features but now they don't really need to as most features have now been built into the device.

But they still should have called it something other than Bluetooth which is rather misleading. I also wasnt aware that they wouldnt talk to other devices as I was planning on sending some photos to my wifes Samsung.

Its not a major problem though. I do like the hardware and what iTouches are about. They are pretty amazing bits of kit even with all the restrictions Apple apply.
