I was hoping someone might have some experience in fixing my old faithful Numark CDN88.

I mainly use it as my backup if the laptop crashes, or if I need a track that I don't have as MP3. The problem is that when I put a disc in either drawer, it spins up, reads the total tracks and run time, but won't play. If I choose a track on the disc, it goes to that track number but just stays there with no time on the display!

I know the mechanisms are working fine, as the laser head moves each time I forward on to the next track, it just won't start playing. Anyone suggest what course of action to take next?

I would guess at the laser being out of alignment

Possible dirty lens?

Thanks for your suggestions. That's what I thought, but both lasers going wrong at the same time?

They manage to read the disc information okay, as it shows the number of tracks and total running time on both screens.

The IC chip in the controller has been known to shake loose in the past. My old Cdn-88's had to be opened up twice to push the chip back in with a similar symptom. It seems to loosen over time ( or maybe my carelessness not sure) but pushing it back fixed it both times.
