I have an abtsract xp3 problem with the barrel. It rotates ok but the spin is very jerky instead of smooth. I have tried connecting the barrel to another xp3 and it works fine so the motor itself is not the problem. Anyone know where I can begin to look? (I have already looked for loose connections)

I have no xp3 experience, but have experience with Martin fixtures.

If the stepper motor is working then you are possibly looking at a faulty drive chip, try swapping the drive chips with the other xp3. If not its a possible main board issue.

Probably (99% certain) a broken wire between the PCB and the motor. You can get new wire sets for a few quid or even better, let a professional repairer do it.

Thanks guys. Looks like a I need a repairer then. I wouldn't know where to find the drive chip nor which wire set to replace. I'll start a new thread and see if anyone knows of a repairer local to me. Cheers

E-Lite Technology Services are good although they are not on your doorstep. They will pick up your light and courier it back for 15 quid or so.

The service from E-lite is excellent. I can't stress enough how important it is to get the right people doing repairs.

Thanks for that tip. E-Lite fixed it promptly and for under £26 including postage back! (I sent it to them at my own cost)

Oh, in case anyone's interested, they replaced a transistor array.

You're very welcome. Shame no-one could be bothered to spare a few words to answer my similar thread! Anyway, really glad they sorted it out.

Just out of interest, was the jerk more of a vibration or was it a pronounced jolt in the stepper motor? Send me a Pm if you can.

Why the attitude?

Why make the assumption that people couldn't be bothered? May be no-one who saw the thread could help. (Not that I know what thread you're talking about.)

A post like that one is hardly going to encourage anyone to help you in the future!

.

It wouldn't have made a lot of odds how many wotds I'd used, cos sadly I have no idea whatsoever. :( :(

Well as I said above, I could be of no help whatsoever.

A quick post to register a big thanks to martin at www.entertainmentlights.co.uk ( [email protected]).

They have just repaired my wizard extreme and the service has been excellent. From the first repair being done so quickly to sorting out additional damage caused by a return courier without quibbling, I couldn't fault the people or service (sadly that is so rare these days).

I can highly recommend these guys for lighting repairs
