Have you ever had the feeling driving to a gig that you forgot something?I did last night,i packed the van plus all my back up gear, and when i got to the venue,i noticed that id forgotten to pack the speaker stands!!!

As it was a good hours drive away i had to do without,it sounded crap, not the usual crisp clear rcf sound.

Never again!

Forgot the stand tops for the truss. Everything else is in the trailer and they were not.

At least it was only 3 miles back

Forgotten anything? Oh yuss. I've forgotten speaker stands/poles before. I've forgotten to take, and also left mic stands. I once left an amp in a pub car park! ( got it back. :D ) I've cut the cables down to a bare minimum for for short time/bad access gigs, and found I've left too many out.

I've forgotten the overhead bar, and had to work round it.

Just 2 weeks ago I left my laptop case behind at home. Would have been ok but was doing a photo slideshow as well. I knew I was missing something, but never clicked till nearly finished setting up.

Suit - I am forever getting my suit all ready, hanging it on the bedroom door then leaving without. Just in case I do always now set up in clothing that would be acceptable if really necessary.

Like Peter, I too have decided to cut down on cables only to find i em missing a couple.

Once nearly left a venue without my full ceremony pa. It was locked in a cupboard during the evening for me and just as I was pulling away I remembered.

I forgot a box of CDs years ago and twice I have forgotten truss. It's not like it's anything small! I got round the problem by placing lights on the floor and directly onto the uprights.

I forgot my shoes once too....

I once forgot to pack the serge cloth for my deckstand booth. Luckily (at the time) I carried my ultimax as a spare stand, so iused that instead.

I also forgot socks at a gig in December. I was playing just off Princes Street, Edinburgh, so got my roadie to run across to one of the shops for me.

I carry a full backup set of clothes. Everything was in the spare suit bag.....except for socks. So I'd forgot my main socks and backup socks.

Had two Wedding Fayres on the go last weekend, and a Saturday night Wedding. Managed to turn up without my toolbox which included all of my tightening nuts for my ultimax! Managed to cobble it with a few spare nuts and bolts off lights and a lashing of gaffa tape for good measure!

I've forgotten a few things over the years, headphones, deckstand and speaker stands spring to mind. Always managed to get through though, customer probably didn't even notice!

Oh and we once forgot a powered edge for a dance floor job near Newcastle, luckily we made our own out of an extension lead :)

You should have just stayed stood up as they probably thought you were more of a lunatic ducking down behind the desk to try and get the voices in your head to come out through the microphone. :)

Back when I first started at Youth Club using their gear, the mic packed up and I used the headphones as a mic, looked pretty strange shouting into the headphones :)

I keep the majority of my leads all in a single bag and I forgot to take the bag once, I was missing speaker leads for both my speakers and my sub... luckily I have 3 microphones all with XLR leads and a spare 1/4 inch lead for when I do clubs and the mixer used 1/4 inch rather than XLR ... Kinda handy having built up a collection of spare leads - now I've put leads in all my boxes so if I forgot the bag I won't have a problem! :)

Damn this thread !!!!!!!
Guess what I forgot last night AGAIN. Luckily it was a race night in a social club so the clothing I had was sufficient, and I was still dressed to a more appropriate standard to the resident DJ who was in another room DJ'ing for a wedding - dressed in addidas tracksuit, t-shirt and trainers  :D :D

Last weekend I picked the wrong case up and took my TFT monitor to a kids party instead of my radio mics. Now printed off labels for the cases so won't be doing that again. I was in Hebburn, so couldn't back either.

Also last weekend, I forgot the prizes for my other kids party - venue is 5 mins from where I live so I went back and got them.

I've also forgot the wood that I use as shelves on my stand before several times to.

My deckstand I made myself using an old computer desk as the basis for it. It had a pull-out shelf that I used to keep my lighting controller and hard disc on. I say "had" and "used to" because I left it in a venue the winter before last when the roads were really bad (the people carrier got stuck in the snow in the car park!) so I didn't go back for it straight away. When I did get back to the venue it had gone possible been thrown away!

My adaptors live in the soft case that came with the headphones so no problem there! If I forget the adaptors I've also forgotten the headphones!

I've never really forgotten anything equipment wise but last year when I was doing a wedding about 20 miles out of town, I forgot the massive list of requests that the Bride & Groom had given me. They were quite specific about their music because it was all Funk, Soul, Motown, Hip Hop & Northern Soul stuff. I panicked a bit as it had all the timings for the cake cutting and first dance(s) etc on it.

The timings went out the window anyway so that wasn't too bad and after I had panicked a bit, I realised that I had put all of their specific tunes on a USB stick so they were all in one place so that was a relief.
It taught me a lesson so what I do now is make sure I have a copy of the playlist on my backup laptop as well as my I-Phone.

Have you use Dropbox before Gary?

A very useful tool and means you can have all of your docs on your Iphone (as long as you can get a signal!)

I have actually Darren but it was a while ago. I deleted it but might get it sorted again as I didn't really look into it that much. I was just using it for sending a band the remixes I did for them.
Thanks for the reminder.

You never heard of sky-hooks Daryll, don't forget the backup sky-hooks as well though :p :D

I've forgotten things, headphones, backup equipment, uprights etc... and also have cut down on leads to find I cut back a little too much lol

Generally I can always find a way round things providing it's not too drastic... Never forgotten anything 'major' yet. :D

This thread is making me feel a whole lot better about myself ;)

I thought I was the only one who did things like this. I once forgot my Mixing desk!! how the hell I did is beyond me..it wasn't exactly small. Most of my gigs are local so not too bad.

Most annoying thing I've forgotten was one of those two pin plug adaptors for US plugs that I use for my American DJ Laser. Kept using it for other stuff around the house and then forgetting it. The last time it happened was for a friends party...so I put a message out on my Facebook page and ended up with about 4 of them!!

I bought a couple of spares since. :D

One set of cufflinks I use are pieces of Lego stuck onto a normal cufflink twiddly bit. People love them, but I did find myself as a guest at a friend's wedding reception last summer spending the whole evening with a little Lego man holding a gun attached to one of them courtesy of the 7 year old son of another friend.

But that's an aside - the time we forgot cufflinks for one of the guys helping me we used white cable ties. Only thing was we had to find the cable cutters to free him at the end of the night.

Sorry I can't contribute more to the thread - I'm sure over the years I've forgotten all sorts of stuff, but as a lot of our gigs are set up at least a day in advance there's normally time to deal with it. I do remember one rush about 30 miles back to the workshop to grab a lighting desk I'd forgotten even though it was just a 'lights' job for a friend. Vaguely remember programming the whole thing blind as the guests were eating and busking it.

1 upright of pipe & base for a car launch last year 45 miles from base.

A mirror ball motor for a job 70 miles from base.

A projector stand/table 30 miles from base, though this was a two van job with the second one coming later on, so easy enough to sort out!

The other two were sorted without the client being any the wiser, but at extra cost to me :(

That'd need one hell of an extension lead!!

I'm forever hanging shirts on the back of the front door only for someone to move them before I go out so they aren't there when I do and I don't take it with me.

Because I work in the same two venue locations, its only when I've had a non standard gig that has caused a problem because something isn't packed or stored where it normally is.

I did forget the speaker stands once night but the venue has a PA for conferences so I borrowed theirs.

Another night I forgot the T Bars for the lighting stands. I managed to get home and back in 25 minutes and sort it.

Forgot my marbles a few times, but I put that down to old age!!

I once left the top sections of the ultimax stand uprights in the back garden arrived at the venue hour later nothing to put the truss on which was all pre wired. I used the 2 bottom sections upside down to create a pole to mount one efx600 on using a top hat I found in the cable bag (which I never used?) and clamped some slim pars the the vertical bar as well. I clamped 2 movers to the sides of the stand, and put 2 on the floor under the stands, then stripped the overhead down for the cables. it looked a little unbalanced but did not look to bad considering space was very tight.
