Received an enquiry today for an 18th Birthday, unfortunately we are already booked on this date but in the "Other information" field they put:

"Just something suitable for a lad into R&B Funky music - lights included if possible... And Costs Please."

Just made me think, what did they expect we would provide them with?

First point, lights included if possible... Our home page has images of lights right? and secondly, costs please... Pretty sure thats what comes with a quotation?

Just thought it was an interesting thing to put. Obviously this person has experience of DJs not turning up with lighting perhaps? Or maybe our website isn't very clear?

Thoughts anyone?

We have had the question of "does it include lights?" recently by a few customers.

Someone must be charging extra for them ;)

Possibly they've had quotes from club/bar type DJ's who don't supply their own equipment.

Same here. If you look at a few disco websites some of them put a charge on for lasers, Smoke machines etc etc.

Same, I get the are lights included question before - Although it's not so silly a few of my mates do house parties for friends etc and they don't bring any lights so maybe that's what they've seen!

I get a lot of people confused with my quote form ...

for venue name they usually put - This hotel in this town
and for location they put - ?????

I'm not sure how it could be any more simple but it keeps happening! :confused:

The fact is, people don't know what to ask for when booking a DJ and disco. They don't know the pertinent questions to ask, so it comes down to basic things like cost and 'if it comes with lights'.

They also don't seem to realise that all discos are not the same...

The fact is, people don't know what to ask for when booking a DJ and disco. They don't know the pertinent questions to ask, so it comes down to basic things like cost and 'if it comes with lights'.

For most folks, their prior experience of DJs will fall into one of three categories, the order of which will change depending on their age and life experiences:

1. Club DJs
2. Sids in pubs and bars
3. Friend & family weddings & functions

... so the questions above are almost inevitable really.

Many clients will not have booked a DJ before so it is quite understandable that they ask these questions. A good salesman will be empathetic to the client's concerns and turn them in to positives. I've had queries before with products/services that I'm not used to and I've had quite astonishing remarks such as the seller being amazed or stunned that I've asked that particular question. Needless to say, those kind of people don't get my business. That's why when people ask me questions I always try to answer in an understanding tone using plain English. I never assume they know, or should know, things already.

I work in Benefits and get to see hundreds of Benefit application forms. You'd be gobsmacked at how people give their "Nationality" as "Church Of England"!! :eek:

You have to remember most people are not used to booking discos - they generally only do a few times in their life at most - if they ask a specific question reassure them that you do provide what they are after and you can also supply.......
