Getting noticed away from gigs.

Recently there's been a couple of occasions where I've been recognised away from the gig environment.

First time was in a local restaurant where the waitress asked if I was a dj as I looked familiar and it turns out she was at a recent Wedding.

Even more randomly Emma was having her follow up appointment for her foot op and the podiatrist asked where I worked as he recognised me. He saw me at his daughters Prom last year!

No autographs though :D

I was at a business Expo last year and a woman came up to me and said

"You did the disco for my 13th Birthday..... I'm 40 this year" !!!

Its quite amazing how many people recognized me at BPM last year :D :D

Interesting thread.
It never ceases to amaze me how most of the time people DONT recognise me but I recognise them when you think of the number of people that we see in the course of doing parties.In effect there is only one of me to remember but there are scores of them to remeber.
Actually there was a very good example of this recently.
We went to a weekender recently and when we were in the restaurant for our meals(it was all inclusive) the couple that were assigned to our table were a couple of dancers who used to come to the regular weekly classes I used to DJ at.After the initial 'hellos' I obviously mentioned the fact that I recognised them and from where,but at no time did they acknowledge that I was the DJ at those classes or that they even recognised me.

Mary and were both strolling the aisles of Sainsburys last year. When this little girl tugged on her mums coat and said "Mum look there's those two djs from our Sophies wedding last year!"

Once we got chatting. Turns out the wedding cake lasted longer than the marriage.:( :(

I remember a gig for a wedding in a grotty little pub. The bride arrived wearing jeans and a lumberjack shirt. They split up 3 days later !!

Loads of times..

I did a pub in the early 90s in Reading town centre, for around 5 years and was given cart blanche in what I did, so the music, entertainment etc was up to me.

We did some very dodgy games and competition and a lot of the time anything went...including some very lewd behaviour and language!

That was over 20 years ago and I still get people recognising me from there.

I was also in Rhodes on holiday years ago and someone shouted at me in the main street asking if I was a DJ and that they knew me from a local venue!

Same here. i was quite shocked tbh. must have been every five mins some random person would come up to me and say "your toby"
I underestimated how many people look at Youtube stuff, but thats how i market myself!

I get it occasionally out and about. Its usually when people are at other gigs.
Its lovely to see a bride and groom again having fun at someone elses wedding. :)

I booked a DJ once for an event I was running for about 3 months and he always brought along a few mates once, a few months ago I was waiting to get into a club and he turned around and said "Alright Dave" and I said "do I know you" he looked puzzled then i said I recongized his mate for the event. Don't think he could belive I remembered his mate I saw once better than him who I'd booked for several gigs and met each time!

I've been recognised in Tenerife as the lead singer of Deacon Blue. The girls in question had photo's taken with me, took video singing duets etc. Shame I'm just a fat bloke from barnsley but we all have (and deserve) our five minutes of fame.

I went out in to town one night and as I was waiting to be served at the bar, one of the bar staff put a pint in front of me and said "That's from the fella at the other end of the bar."

Thinking it was a bit odd, but also to say thanks, I looked over and it was a lad who's 18th I had DJ'd at about 2 months prior.

Also, about a month ago, me and my step-brother went to Yates' to get some lunch, as I was picking him up from an interview he'd had in town, and this bloke said to me "Are you Scott, the DJ?" I said "Yes I am" and then remembered I had DJ'd for his Wedding.

We ended up talking for about an hour as he was an aircraft engineer in the RAF and it went from there... :D
