A year out with Educational Volunteering Charity, Project Trust lets you experience life in Asia, Africa, Latin America or the Caribbean, not as a tourist but as a valued member of a local community. Our long term projects of eight or twelve months will give you plenty of time to explore your new surroundings, whilst working in your community will provide you with an incomparable intimate experience of the inner workings of your chosen country.
Without sounding harsh, I'll have to decline donating. I pick and choose the good causes I want to help very carefully. Whilst I'm sure the young lady will be doing a good job over there, I won't be helping to fund someones gap year abroad, regardless as to whether she'll be volunteering or not.
Reading my post back perhaps it does sound harsh, but hey, at least it's honest. I wish her the best of luck, but it'll have to be without any financial support from this Scotsman. Sorry. :p :o

I have to agree with Shaun on this one.
Fair do's to the young girl but I do find it a tad annoying when someone agrees to work for some good cause abroad and then asks the public to pay for their fare.

Why? You either choose to help or you don't - what's to get annoyed about?

Do I really need to explain why I should be annoyed that someone who needs 5K to spend a year in SA has the gall to ask the general public to help pay for it.
Just in the same way that I would be annoyed at Girl Guides or Boy Scouts who ask for donations to attend World Jamborees on the other side of the world.

If you don't want to donate, then fair enough, but keep your comments to yourself.

Apologies if my ealier post has derailed this thread.
In fairness, it did seem (on post #2) that the OP was wondering why people weren't donating. I gave an honest answer to why I wouldn't on this occasion (which I thought he would appreciate more than ignoring the thread altogether), especially as he was wondering why there were views and no donations.
Anyway, I just wanted to clarify. I'll let the thread get back on track now.
You have your right to you opion.
For the record, This girl is not from a privillage background which is why she needs to raise funds!
While it could be considered a GAP year, she will be making a worthwhile contribution to people who are in dire need of help.
You must not be in the minority as I have had no donations from this site and only one from another forum.
I am simply trying to help her raise cash by doing this 10 mile walk and apreiciate any contribution my fellow DJ's can make

Personally, I don't think it's a case of that. I think people will donate if they know the person trying to raise the money or there are other fund raisers out there closer to their hearts, as cancer research certainly is to mine.
Good luck and I hope she raises the money she needs.:)
Your Right of course!
I have known this girl since she was 3 and I am in awe of a teenager who can give up a year to go to a third world country to help other kidz.
My Mum worked for Cancer Research for 10 years and I have donated to that and other charities in the past.
I think PROJECT TRUST is a good cause and am doing my bit to support it, by doing this sponsered walk,
And if any one wishes to help then Thankyou!
