Active 10s on their own?

I've got a gig next month and I've just been to the venue and the room is upstairs and it's a pretty tight load in up the stairs.

I'm told it's circa 50 people and I reckon the dance floor will hold no more than 30.

there will be an open mic session downstairs directly below the room where I am working so subs pounding the floor above won't be great for them and to be honest I don't want to carry them upstairs :D

Does anyone use and get away with active 10s for these sort of small parties

it's a 40th birthday so I don't think it is going to be an rnb fest.

I used my RCF ART310a's for a few small wine-bar gigs and they were fine. Probably no more than 40 guests though.

How did you find the bass?

For 10's very good, obviously they're going to lack real depth but people were dancing and the sound was balanced, it wasn't all mids and highs.

Depending on what sort of music was wanted I'd happily use a pair of quality 10's for very small gigs with awkward access.

Even with 30 people, I'd never use 10" speakers on their own to playback disco music. I'd still use a sub or a 12 or 15" speaker.

I know what you mean, it does sound a lot better with a sub, albeit acceptable without.

I might chuck one of the subs in the car and then I have the option, but I think my fear is that with a wooden floor right above an open mic session in the bar downstairs, it's not going to go down too well and I would need to turn it off anyhow.

Martins old Peavey Pro 15s it is then ---thats the lightest speaker I have--apparently there are offers "to carry your kit"

I think I might avoid those at the end.

So my answer is 15 inch speakers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I generally use RCF ART 422's by themselves for almost every gig, up to about 150 people.

I'm really not sure if I'd dare to do the same with the 10's, but the 12's have plenty of punch.

I tried the 710as today and they are pretty punchy when a bit of volume is put through them. I got them louder than I could stand in my garage and the signal lights were not even on so plenty of headroom methinks :D
