Hi guys..
Have any of you head / used the agent called 'discoz.com'
The website seems a bit shoddy and they charge a 10-20 % commission.. but it is free to register and you get a choice if you want to do the disco or not..
Does anyone have any experience with them?
My thinking is that it can't hurt to try!

I thinks there is a law some where that an agent may not take no more than 15% of the gross fee being charged.

i wouldn't work for an agent charging you 20%

no sorry m8 aint used them but as 'Digitalsounds' said they shouldnt be charging 20%, i too am sure the law is 15% :)

Maybe sign up with an email address you dont use, and see what its like. That way you can ignore emails etc

I've just done a bit of research about Agency fees, and (as far as I can see) this is the situation (in summary):-


There is an upper limit to the amount of fees that an entertainer can deduct from income for tax purposes – 17 per cent of the earnings from the employment – but there are no rules about the nature of the agency fees themselves.

Our fees are usually around 15-20%, or up to £50 per gig.

This is actually much easier than it seems.

I've been registered with these guys for a while and will be doing my first gig for them just after Christmas. As with all the agencies I have done work for, it is a simple as saying no if the money is too low. I couldn't give a flying fig what they add on top as long as I am getting what I want.

So my advice is sign up, you have nothing to loose, they seem nice genuine people so far and if the price offered when you get offered a gig is not enough, say no!

Just remember, do whatever works for you and don't be afraid to say no if you don't think it's worth it. It is your talent you are selling at the end of the day! Personally these guys must have the tackiest website in the world - it hurts my eyes just reading it!
