Doses anyone know of any programs that do that?

you have a table and the end of the dance floor with a laptop on it the customer comes up to the laptop and selects the song they want and it gets sent to me with all the details like song name, track number and CD-title

Get my drift????

Thanks Callum

I just stick a A4 pad next to me and a load of pens - folks just grab it and write their requests, etc, onto it and I rip a sheet off and play them.

Simple, straightforward and cheap.

Now next dilema how can i get it to work

Sam
06-10-2006, 09:03 PM
mate i think your making it wayyy to complicated..
1) pc might get damaged
2) it involves two pcs
3) Just take the requests on paper.. at the end of the day surely it is best not to over complicate things
4) you could buy a new light instead of a laptop etc....

End of the day they want a good show including lights sound system not a system to put requests in..

And you did tell me you don't do many professional discos.. sooo is it worth looking at it right now instead of getting in all the bookings..
Just my views..
Sam

iv got 1 desktop and 1 laptop so it is possible and it looks very professional

Sam
06-10-2006, 09:07 PM
At the end of the day it doesnt look professional.. it makes it a clutter.
And they are not looking for how many PCs you have .. they just want a good disco!

You need to be able to interact with the customers.. I could go on about how many pcs i have.. I could have them all over the room.. but i concentrate on the show.. and too be honest requests isnt a big distraction.. and if it is a problem to fiond the music then have a 'PC libary' wher eyou can search it quickly..

I use little request tickets like this with my logo & contact details on.
They work great, I put them all over the room, in the middle of tables, on the bar

They also find their way into peoples pockets, so you get phone calls with people saying they got my number of the little request thingy.

Or you get little notes on them during the night like “I like that song you just played” or “what time do you finish”

Of course people use them to request songs as well.

I think this is great idea, because I’ve done some gigs before up on high stages were the punters can’t actually get to.
So they had to get a member of the venue staff to keep coming up to me to request songs.
It would be really useful for things like that.

Saying that the text message idea would do the trick for that & you wouldn’t have to keep lugging 2 pc’s around . (I have seen a DJ using the text message system years ago)

I’m sure there is some kind of Bluetooth message system as well (but don’t quote me on that) which would work with the PC idea.

I read about a system called "Text Live" or something similar. It was showcased and sold at one of the large DJ seminars/shows in america. Guests could send text messages and requests live and they would display on the dj's projector screens/plasmas for all to see. I just did a google and can't find anymore info. I recall it being around $1300 though.

Not to mention the risk of theft or damage to the 'remote' computer.

Also, don't forget that if you plan on using a computer to DJ with in the future, that will mean you will need a third one, because you wouldn't want to hook up the one you were using to DJ with to any kind of a live network......

I won't say, as I know the programmer etc. Most of the work was the web based interface that gets emeded into a program on the server to stop the users closing the browser/using the computer for other things.

Remind me to plug it in, and I'll show you :)
