What are the majority of your bookings?

Years ago I hated doing weddings.
I think it was because of nerves etc in that it was someones special day and I didn't want to spoil anything by being rubbish. I found them really stressful at the time and it was when I was working for a mate so I could more or less pick and choose what I wanted to do.

Thankfully that has changed big time and I actually really enjoy them now which is just as well because I would say that these days, 75% of my bookings are weddings.

I just wondered what the majority of bookings everyone else did were?
There was a time when I'd be 50/50 with bookings throughout the year with a mixture of weddings and birthdays etc but it seems that the weddings are taking over.

Yep mainly weddings. I'm building an additional website to attract more landmark birthdays, anniversaries, retirement parties etc. to try and get a more balanced mix of work but I think at the moment it's only the wedding market that remains bouyant. Giving it a go anyway!

Yes its probably about the same for me 75% wedding.
From April till End of October its all Wedding except by 4 Christening.
November Mainly Birthdays
December Christmas Party and a few Weddings
Jan till March Mainly Birthdays with few Wedding

This years bookings are all Weddings bar one that's a wedding anniversary :D

Last year it was all weddings except for 2 Proms, 2 xmas parties & a 60th birthday party.

Mostly weddings and corporate work for us. We do about 5 or 6 birthday bookings a year too.

Having a guess (haven't got my dates to hand) I would say that apart from December my split is 50 / 50 between weddings and birthdays.

I'm getting more enquiries for birthdays at the moment but I already have a few weddings booked in the May-September range with one in December.

December is mostly Christmas parties (at least 2 every weekend and the occasional midweek one) but the last 2 years I have done weddings on NYE (at the same venue).

Majority are birthdays, then weddings, then proms/christmas parties etc.

We also have a regular booking with a couple of football teams who we provide PA for awards & a disco afterwards.

Mix bag really, not relying on one particular type of event but prefer doing birthdays and proms.

On second thoughts, the majority of my bookings are probably quiz nights as I do one every Thursday night at a local pub. Not a massive earner but keeps some regular money coming in - most welcome on some of the 'dryer' months...

I think you seem to just come across better with the type of event you want to do ... My favourite events are 18th/21st and nightclubs ...

A lot more weddings for me this year than the 2 years previously. Including a few mid-week ones. Which is a first for me:) However they don't start until May through until October. A few more christenings than normal this year as well

Same as most it would appear...weddings. I hardly ever do birthdays or anniversaries. A couple of hotels will book me for dinner dance/ball type things, and of course, Xmas.

They're not the most exciting gigs you'll ever dj at mate, but canny little earners on a Sunday.

A bit like Sunday weddings everyone's at work the next day. So can be tricky getting people up dancing:D :D

Then they all turn up at once, you try to entertain the anklebiters somehow, and the parents ignore you ( and their offspring ) , while getting stuck into the bar. Ten minutes before you finish, somebody decides to dance, and then you get asked for "just one more".

Steve's right, they're a nice earner on a Sunday, and you're often home in time for tea. :D

You have forgot to add :

The guy who has been stood at the bar all day will constantly come over asking for karaoke - when you inform him you don't have it he will then constantly pester you to sing over the microphone.

The grandparents will spend all afternoon rearranging the buffet and complaining the music is too loud.

You don't only have to entertain the little darlings all afternoon, but are expected to be their nanny as they are not allowed to pester their parents at the bar.

When quoting for a christening - take your fee, half it, then knock £50 off any you MIGHT be in with a chance.

No matter how good you are - you will be a :Censored: DJ

If you are planning on doing a christening then an evening gig - remember that at the end when carrying your kit out it will take 4 times longer than normal as guests are not allowed to move out the way for you and must congregate around any doorway that is available.


I love christenings :D :D They are good earners for a bit extra money and when starting off found they were invaluable. I rarely get christening bookings now unless at one of my residencies.

And, from a recent christening experience, the father's mate's turn up unwelcomed and start aggro with the mother's family, you get asked if you'll knock money off if they finish the party early, you say no, then, ten minutes later, the mother comes over and says just end it now as there's going to be trouble. You pack up, fully paid up, and are home two hours early to watch the football! Happy days!! :D
