One of my Hotels has a Best of British theme for forthcoming Xmas functions and I am doing a staff party in 2 weeks and they have just sprung on me that it will be "Best of British".

I don't need music ideas but am looking for ideas to light, theme and decorate the rooms.

The ideas so far are:

Uplighting
Union jack backdrops
Inflatables
Posters
Cardboard cut outs
Fancy dress

Anything you can think of?

There's got to be a bulldog in there somewhere!

(...and phone boxes, double decker buses, black taxis, and possibly something to do with royalty.... especially with it being jubilee year)

Phil Bearman does a DVD that might be useful.

The only thing they don't have is Great Britain though! :(

Would have been ideal as the Hotel have a projector.

How about the "Your country needs you?" posters?

I have got some of the keep calm posters, but don't want to turn it into a war theme rather than a best of British theme.

I also need to consider the best of British..

Stating the bleedin' obvious, I know, but I presume you're going to create your own video / visuals with a few effects added in for good measure / interest and encompassing all things British, then.

with regards to uplighting and breakup lighting when we have done these before for similar themed events was to make so gel up out of 3 pieces of red frost and blue taped together to give a striped uplight and triple colour break up? just a thought...

Two bits of gel ( one red, one blue ) strapped over a white uplighter, giving discrete ( separate ) red, white and blue columns of light, adjacent to each other. Simples. :D :D

A bit of Barn Dancing/Country Dancing would obviously be a must.

Oh and the Morris Dancers as well

Sorry!
Peter almost got what I ment!
Not using let as it won't work the same but using tungsten you can make 3 slices of gel a red and blue then using either a light frost or colour correction to get the white use celleotape to join them together to creat a gel that fits he frame and pop it straight in the light.

You can do the same for room break up or just do each light a different colour - if uou fancy room break up I can lend you the kit to do it as a demo for your Christmas run! :-))))

I have quite a few pictures, but this is the rig picture. More to come in the next few days.

The gig went well. I made a playlist of background music with all the big bands and artists from the 60s onwards which were played through the main system and an EXSXA100 with a WATS2 attached in the bar area and I used the QTX QR12PA speaker in the end room(Snug they called it) with a USB drive loaded with British TV themes and film themes.

It went well, but was a long day. I was in the office at 10am, left at 1pm and got home at 2:15am!
