hire equipment insurance

We have arranged to help out at a large charity event,so for this we needed more equipment plus staging.I have been told by the hire company that before i can collect equipment i need an insurance certificate to the value of £40,000.
I have a policy with dj guard but on this one of occasion they will not cover this

Can anyone recommend an insurance company that may help me out on this one?

it is collect on the friday and return on the monday

Thats a bit strange, I thought Hire companies would have a block policy and simply add the cost of Insurance to your bill.

For you to insure on a one off basis sounds very expensive.

I would look for a Hire Company that has its own Insurance scheme--it might be quicker.

Normal sources would offer annual policies I would guess--you could try Entertainment and Leisure.

I dont know if Hencilla Canworth could help?

The opposite way round Alan. Most hire companies insist you have your own insurance these days and put it in their T&Cs.

Most insurers I've spoken with won't touch dry hire insurance - too risky as there are too may variables.

The only hire company I've seen offer it are Stage Electrics and they charge an additional percentage to the customer, I don't know whether this covers the whole insurance premimum but even if it doesn't, they're a massive company so can probably absorb it!

Fabtronic are the local Sound and Lighting hirers round here and strike me as a typical equipment hire company.

According to their Director they have cover included in their package for hired equipment and charge the customers 10 per cent.

None of which helps the OP.

I suppose we are talking of a high value here £40,000 which is not an amount you could personally run the risk of losing--the Hire Company know that hence the requirement for Insurance.

I think if the Insurance premium is high to cover £40,000 of equipment which I guess it will be--its worth checking with other operators who do offer an Insurance option and see how it compares.

Hire company's round here charge an extra 10% for insurance. :) if you can prove you have the insurance you get 10% off. Makes everything more accessible to all.
