rcf 705 active sub circuit board

I have an rcf 705 active sub,it was giving me problems like low output,very little volume.then the next time i powered it up the fan came on and went of,i then had no volume at all.

I got it checked out at my dealer he said it was not the driver but could well be electrical fault with circuit board,for this it would have to be returned to rcf for fault finding.

I found out todayt it was something to do with its protection mode thats why it kept shutting of.They say it needs 2 new items replaced on the circuit board.total cost from when they started to check it out till job finished will cost me £230.

Does this sound reasonable or is it expensive for what they have done considering they are not replacing the circuit board.?

Next question what will a new circuit board cost?

Do you know anyone who can supply and fit one at a reasonable cost?

Unfortunately you havent mentioned where you bought it.

Was it from a dealer or privately?

If from Dealer and a new item you may have a claim under the Consumer Legislation similar to Sale of Goods Act depending on age of unit.

Fit for purpose etc.

Up to 6 years qualifies I recall.

Bear in mind you are lucky they can replace electrical bits--usually its the
WHOLE circuit board these days.

I dont know about RCF other than have worked with them and found them to be excellent--as regards after sales service are you saying Dealer cannot touch so has to pass to manufacturer?

For items NOT under Manufacturers warranty i.e. older items I would have hoped the Disco shop could repair themselves--:confused:

I would think it might possibly be more expensive passing back to Manufacturer--

Personally if a shop said it had to go to the Manufacturer I would want to know if another Disco shop might have the expertise to repair it and would shop around. Agreed time is against you as you probably need the item asap.

As I said dont know how RCF work--if they dont sell spares you are rather caught between a rock and a hard place---so disregard that part of this if I am wrong.

Unless you have the knowledge I would be careful about a home repair.
