I received a need a disco enquiry this afternoon for a wedding on Saturday.....:eek: , talk about cutting it fine , so no consultation , no requests , I have got a first dance song , its a start....:D ( got the gig BTW) , I have played at the venue before , so I know the duty manager , even they were only asked yesterday.
I would love to know why every thing was left to the last few days....
So a play by ear day.....:D :D

If the first dance is Roy C - Shotgun Wedding I could hazard a guess :lol:

Last minute weddings are usually traveller weddings as they tend to get shunted from venue to venue once they are "found out"

But it could just be a case of they booked a £60 sid and have been let down at the last minute but then you said the venues only just been booked to so i'll hazard a guess at the above lol

We actually get quite a few of these. As well as the reasons already stated, quite often a late booking comes about following the realisation that the budget isn't totally depleted and they're looking for "quick upgrades", especially where a band or other entertainment is already booked.

Also some folks simply forget, or think their other-half-to-be has organised it, and it's only when they're going through the last minute checklist that it dawns on them.

Chances are the DJ wasn't high on the priority list and the music/entertainment won't be of paramount importance to them.

i did a wedding last saturday with just 3 days notice, knew the first & second dance and had a quick chat with the bride on the Friday.

Everything went fine and it was a good night.

IMO, if you know the first dance, the bride & grooms names and how they want to do the first dance, thats all you really need in advance.

I've done some wedding through agencies and all they tell you is what the first dance is about 2 hours before you leave and I have to ask around to find out the bride and grooms name!

They go aright, but I'd much rather have a plan to what will happen on the night and I rough idea to what music I will be playing.

Under normal circumstances , I would have a consultation , have a good idea of the music they required , or a playlist of sorts , get to know the couple a little better , and they get to know me as well , plus a hundred small details that IMHO I don't like to leave to chance , after all it is someone special day , and we have a duty to give the best we can , and a few hints are always a good start.....:D

Surely the invitations will have been sent out weeks ago,how else are the guests supposed to know about it.It just looks like they have presummed thay will get the venue and a dj booked at short notice.

agreed , but if its a small wedding , I guess they could email/phone the guests.
Or maybe I have been spoilt in the past , bookings months in advance , meetings , play lists.
One of those things ,Hopeful I will give a full report and pics on Sunday morning.
