Starships Clean Radio Edit

Hi All

I run kids discos and I keep getting asked to play Starships by Nicki Minaj, but I haven't been able to find a non-explicit version.

Can anyone point me in the direction of where I may be able to source this.

Crikey! I got a clean radio-edit version of this quite a while back before it became popular. I've had a few sherberts tonight so I can't remember where it came from but I I'll try and sort out the info in the morning for you!

I did a school disco last month and this was the most requested track. I just couldn't play it as I didn't have a non-explicit version. I suppose the worrying thing is that the kids had heard it. When I was 12 I was listening to Chaka Khan and David Bowie.

Exactly the same here I have the explicit version, but just can't find a radio edit any where. For me it was UB40 and INXS :eek:

I managed to find a "EDITED VERSION" last night, downloaded it and it still has about 6 too many of the f word to play at a school disco!! I don't know who they think they edited it for, but it wasn't anyone under the age of 18!

When you work out where the clean version came from, let me know!

I'm fairly sure there's a cover version on Amazon that's labeled up as "clean"....or just edit your own version....that's what I done.

Edit....cover version is by Music Magnet....but I don't rate it lol.

I hoping it was going to be on the new Now (81), but it's not. I'm guessing it was a bit extreme for them even (or just too newly released)

In the light of day (and soberness - oh, how my head hurts!!), I've remembered that I didn't get a clean copy from the outset. We had it on a promo disc a while ago and it was totally unsuitable to play at family parties so I've done my own family-friendly edit. Simply used brake and reverse effects in much the same way the Radio 1 did to get their version. Mind you, listening to it a few minutes ago it sounds like I've missed a couple!! :eek:

I do have a Starships (Clean) track in my library but that's a karaoke version so maybe that's where I was getting confused last night.

CD Pool included a cleaned version in their DJ six pack 5th March. May be able to still get it from them?

Those of us who signed up for the CD Pool Sixpack got an edited version a month ago, bearing the legend " Exclusive to CD Pool ".

Once the next week's downloads have appeared, then previous weeks ones are no longer available. However, don't panic Mr Mainwaring.

Audacity is a good. Edit the mp3 file, just reverse the swearing and then export to mp3.

What hypocrisy...she obviously knows her target market is kids and teens, so why release the songs with those lyrics in anyway?

Hmm, requested at every single gig I've been to in the last month (school discos for 8-11yr olds, family nights and club nights alike).

I'm sure it won't be requested at the 40th I've got on Friday though ;)

I was going to call up when Nicki Minaj was on Kiss last week and ask her (as an artist) what swearing adds to her music, but I didn't want to be too much of a Dad :P

Because its controversial,and the unfortunate way the world youth use expression,so it sells records and gets to number one by hitting the youth market.
Weather we like it or not...its the way of the modern world.

Let's be honest here even if we play an edited or cleaned up version the kids (in my experience) will still sing the unedited version loud enough to be heard because they think it's cool, as Paul said sadly it's the way of the world today.

I sound effected live a swear word out of a sone at a 11yr old school prom last year only to have 200 kids sing the word, so you'll never win.

I created my own clean version using audacity but the clean version I tracked down somewhere was much better than mine.

I have a few different versions (remixes) but the one promo only video sent out yesterday is clean (ish) it removes all the F words and the bit before the drop says "higher than a mother" rather than a mother F!!

That said I heard a version on radio 1 this morning and it just said "higher than a" so even cleaner

It's not the original track though - It's a (fairly bad) remix with some dull generic beats on loop and the Virtual DJ beat grid doing overtime.

I use the Mastermix one personally, best one out there by far.

I don't know which version the BBC use (probably made in-house) but I still don't know why they cut out "my name is Onika but you can call me Nicky"...does my head in every time I hear it lol

I got a clean(ish) copy from amazon, all the 'F' words are removed but i did hear a 'S' word near the begining of the track.
