Speaker Carpetting

I've inherited some really great sounding speakers, but the cloth covering (carpetting?) is in a bad way.

In an ideal world I'd send them away to be recovered but I can't find anyone who does this, so plan B (no pun intended) is to do it myself.

So, on the off chance anyone here has had to do this before any tips would be greatly appreciated, eg, where to get the right material from, how to get the pattern right, how to remove the old stuff and how to attach the new stuff etc

I'd advise against using the self adhesive type.

The non-adhesive type is a lot easier to realign if you go wrong.

Make sure you have bucket loads of Copydex too & either tailor's chalk or a chinagraph pencil to mark it out

Any Latex adhesive (copydex) you can buy this in 5 gallon tubs from carpet wholesalers.
Be v careful not to soak the area in adhesive as tick bands will seap through the carpet and leave white streaks.

It took ages, but I have no doubt it would have taken a lot lot longer without your help/tips/advice, but now I have a pair of speakers that look as good as they sound.

Well since you've asked for it, I've got a pair to renovate, I'll try to remember to take before and after pics.

I picked up a pair of Citronic Clubman speakers last week which I am going to restore. Will post pics when I do them. Perfect for the retro look I am going for :)

If its any consolation, I often only have 3/4 way through and after pics as I forget until the latter stages of the project :lol:

I'm looking for some speaker carpet to cover a dj booth and am having trouble finding any suitable. I'm after the really thin stuff, but everywhere seems to have the thicker woolier stuff at the moment.
