I quit doing regular design work a while back, but have continued doing the odd bits and bobs for friends. I still regularly have people contacting me via the forum to enquire about having designs created for them, but as of yesterday I've quite designing completely.

I just wanted to take a moment to publicly thank everyone who has hired me to do their logos/flyers/roll up banner designs etc in the past. It's been an absolute pleasure working for you all. The time has now come to permanently hang up the design brush.

In all honesty, I lost all enjoyment doing them at the end. The graphic design started out as a hobby then progressed into a job. The busier and busier I got doing it the more it was eating into all the spare time I had. So time was one factor why I quit. The other factor was that my creative streak came and went. When I was enjoying it I could rattle design after design out and keep coming up with new ideas. Then I went through spells of not enjoying it as much (usually after spells of doing design after design without a break). During those spells I would find the jobs taking twice sometimes three times as long to do. I always got there in the end but the time it took was an issue for me, especially as most of the jobs I did were roughly a set price, and the longer I took meant I was spending too much time on them for the fee I charged.

Previously when I got a little 'burnt out' I would just take a break from it, and come back raring to go again. During my last extended break I found that the urge to start again never came. Also, during that 'time off' I had still been doing some occasional designs for close friends, and all of those jobs really were a chore (apart from one). I really wasn't feeling it anymore. So....the decision was made to hang up the design brush permanently.

There may come a time down the road where I'll dabble again, but it's not in my line of sight for the time being.

Shaun, can you do one last logo for me?

It's for a guy with an ostrich farm. The logo has to have an ostrich, or two. Preferably with a dwarf riding on at least one of them. Maybe with someone chasing the ostrich(es) with a fork and knife....maybe with a "yum" thought bubble?

It's for "YumOstrich" and the font should be Comic Sans or Papyrus. Or both.

Graphic design is hard, and not all projects will be able to be done by all people. There are sites (not mentioning) that you can get people to design you stuff ie logos and then you pick the one you want. Some appeal and ideas come quicker for some than others. Graphic deisgn is a complex task

If you're creative, and 'in the zone' it needn't be hard. I've seen me knock out half a dozen deigns in an afternoon. It's like anything else, if you have a flair for it, it can be the easiest job in the world. But if like me you go through creative spells then the process can seem lengthier than usual at times. I definitely wouldn't say it's hard though. Digging ditches for a living is hard. Being creative (if you have a creative streak) certainly isn't hard. Just my opinion.
