Does anyone know a nice pub/bar around Palmers Green/Wood Green area (preferably near a tube station) which would accommodate a small birthday party?
I'm trying to talk a potential client out of booking a church hall for 20/25 guests (her family are also telling her it's a bad idea to have a big hall).
If not - anyone fancy coming to a party to make the numbers up?

Hmmmm. Small function room near Wood Green station (no Tube Station in Palmers Green)
I used to know all of them, but not been in any of the pubs around there for quite some time, so not sure what state of repair any of the pubs are in these days!
Let me have a think! (About to have dinner, so will come back later)

Thanks Angela - I'm googling it as well but obviously local knowledge is better.:beer1:

Still thinking (and looking!)
All the ones within walking distance of the tube station that used to have function rooms have either closed, or seem that they might be on the grotty side (to put it mildly).
Steve and I are trying to remember if the Nags Head (opposite the Tube Station) used to have a function room.... only it's not the Nags Head anymore. It changed many years ago to 'The Goose and Granite', and Steve's got an inkling that it's changed it's name again. It might be worth a phone call to them though: it is a very big pub, so I wouldn't be surprised if they could cater for private parties.
The Nelson (The Lord Nelson) is just a minute or two up the road, and they might be worth a call too.
The Jolly Anglers definitely doesn't have a function room (Shame, because it's the best pub close to the station).
Those are the 3 closest to the station (apart from the Wetherspoons, which I've discounted)
...I'll keep thinking / looking.

...If they are prepared to move away from the Tube Station and up in to Palmers Green, The Fox on Green Lanes is an obvious choice. They do have a self-contained function room, but that would be a too large. However, I know they accommodate smaller private parties within a section of the pub. It is a bus ride up from Wood Green Station though.

Getting stuck for anything else around there, however, I will just make an honourable mention if they are prepared to travel a few miles (4.8 by road, to be exact), plus close to a tube station, and with an area that would be perfect for the numbers mentioned: The Griffin in Whestone. They have covered in and blocked off the original coach and horses access at the side of the pub, with access out to the patio and the garden beyond, and they use it for small private parties. The down side is that you have to share the bar in the main pub, but that's just the other side of the door, plus it's an easy walk from Totteridge and Whetstone tube station.

Many years since I lived in N13, 'the' venue used to be 'The :Censored::Censored::Censored::Censored:' at the junction of Green Lanes and the North Circular but I think that has long gone ?
Here's a link that might help Martin ?

Alternatively, Winchmore Hill or even Enfield might have what you're looking for ?

Been gone for years now (plus, besides it being a good bus ride from the nearest tube station, it never had a function room small enough for the size Martin is looking for)

Palmers Green Station on Aldermans Hill, although a 'mainline' station, is in Zone 4, and has links to Moorgate & Kings Cross for Tube connection ?.
The trains run late as well, used to regularly travel for a prowl around the West End and back to my flat.

Oh, I know that.... I live on the other branch of the same line! They don't appear to run as late from that line though - especially BACK IN to town, with the last one leaving a couple of minutes after midnight.
Anyway, don't want to tie up this thread with irrelevancies... it isn't there any more, plus it never had a suitable room in the first place.
Martin, just a thought: Are they having any catering at the party? If so, hiring out a small restaurant for the night might be an option too.

I also thought of restaurants as they're doing food - but it's going to be all vegan!
I've got a feeling this one may be cancelled to be honest, the music they want is excellent (70's funk) but what with getting a suitable venue and paying my fee for such a small party I'm not convinced they'll commit to anything.
I've passed on the suggestions and I'll leave it in their hands.
