I never pass work onto anyone.
I do, however, recommend several guys on this forum if I am booked.
Got to thank Shaun for recommending me.... I owe him a few pints.

Thankfully I've never had a situation where I feel I couldn't recommend anyone. I've been lucky enough (through this forum) to have a select few DJs that I'm more than happy to recommend.

Now now Shaun. :Naughty: I must say that thanks to this forum I've found folk that I'm totally confident in sending to cover work for me. No forum member I've used has ever had anything uncomplimentary said about them by venues or customers.

It's nice to know that we have other folk we can depend on when necessary.
I've also worked for quite a few forum menbers, and it's nice when they fill what would otherwise be blank dates in your diary.

No-one from the forum, mind you. I've done a few gigs for people on here in the past (and I hope I've done a good job and not let anyone down!) and I've given out contact details for others when I've been booked. But I do know a few DJs locally that I really would struggle to recommend to anyone (that I liked or didn't know!! :D :D )

Good point. Yes, and no. In my humble opinion, I believe it's often possible to gain a fairly accurate picture of someone's attitude and general trustworthiness from the forum alone.
I know on one occasion, I called someone I had never spoken to before, to try and cover a gig. I couldn't do, it, and since it was nearer his area than mine I offered it to him. He couldn't do it either, but he made numerous phone calls in order to get it covered, even when there was nothing in it for him. I have since met the lad in question, Paul Peart ( Supersound) and see no reasons to radically alter my initial impressions of him. A really helpful chap.

However: As we all know, there have been various instances of folk offering/taking gigs with dire consequences. Although Chris suggests an excellent way of working, sometimes it's just not possible when things have become urgent for whatever reason.

We can't guarantee things will run with no hitches whatsoever, but as a general rule, I think that folk on here are unwilling to risk a good reputation ( and in some cases their membership of the forum ) by unreliable behaviour.

For a pointless thread, it's already generated a fair bit of reasoned and valid discussion, which I think has been/will be useful.
I'd hope also that it might make it clear to all on here that behaviour which harms, or inconveniences other forum members, or customers will not be tolerated.

Exactly - not very professional if you did name names etc.

On the flip side here is who I pass work too if my four bookings a night are full or I am on holiday.
I will often suggest someone fitting for the job. I also know each member very well now, although
I need to get out and see a few more working. I learnt the hard way that you really need to see someone
live before referring or using their services!!

I have 3 people whose number I pass on, and occasionally work. There's Andy (deltic)...thanks passing my number on on Friday BTW, unfortunately I was booked. There's another guy who I've known for 10 years, and finally a friends of a friend who helped me out when it was my dad's funeral, and I got brilliant feedback about him.

As for the flip side. I have a list of 1, who i know is absolutly terrible and has actually ruined peoples partys.

I'm steadily building up a few contacts whom I may give 'first option' on gigs that come in. It depends on the customers requirements, where they are etc.

Because I am usually working myself, some of this is based on building up a relationship and being safe in the knowledge that I would trust them to do a function for myself (or being able to cover the type of function on offer).

I do offer jobs on here, as that helps me build those relationships and knowledge, but ultimately the customer decides who they want to employ, not me.

I pass work on to a couple of local DJ's who I know will do a good job and more importantly turn up, they're happy to take the jobs as they are better paid gigs than they normally get.
Conversely they pass work my way but the sort of clients they get to call me baulk at my prices, (£200 wedding, £160 private party) :(

Not so, I would have said. It is a true answer, it is also a very short answer, and could profitably have caveats, qualifications and explanations added to it. That is what I hope is happening here.

That is one way of looking at it. I would point out that since the topic has already attracted the concerted attention of three mods, the odds of it veering into dangerous waters should be minimal.

I for one find the spectacle of folk publicly arguing about who was to blame for a problem particularly unedifying, and would have no hesitation in cutting short such discussions, if it were required.
