Flight-case/stand suggestions

First of all I hope I've found the correct section of the forum for this question.

Currently I have a dual C.D+G player and Kam Pro 1500 mixer all racked together in, I think it will be a 2u x 6u x 2u, flight-case.

I want to still use that set up (for now) and include
1) my new lap top
2) DJ-2-Go
3) DJ IO

I realise I could just stand the lap top beside what I already have but I was hoping to be able to have the lap top and DJ-2-Go raised above my mixer.

I've seen the cases where the lid slides up to act as a shelf for the lap top but I'm wondering if these would still let me gain access to and see my C.D+G player and if the drawers of the player could be accessed too.

I know the DJ IO will probably just pop in the back of the case. I just hate wires trailing everywhere and want it to be as neat as possible.

I don't have a booth or stand at the moment and was thinking of just getting a keyboard stand for now, getting the Equinox foldable D.J screen and perhaps just using 2 or 3 of the panels for pub karaoke nights.

Can anyone recommend a case that would help me achieve this please?

I hope that all makes sense.

I've scouted 2 shows this week where the KDJ has been sat on a chair at a low table provided by the pub, which I thought looked terrible.

I'd like a ticket to stand please, all be it for a small price for now, lol

What I have now is pretty heavy, but hopefully now I'll get to not have to cart 3 cases of C.D's and 2 big folders ok karaoke discs around with me!

You can put the CDG controller up top, and stand the DJ2Go just below it on the top of the mixer, with mixer and drawers in the usual place... there is a shelf / ledge up top which would hold a netbook or laptop!

The back door hinge has come unsecured but stays put in use - £40 plus P & P... which is going to be steep due to the weight (17kg), so collection / meet up near to Peterborough / A1M would be better. ;)

I also have an old Ultimax mini stand for Karaoke use, it's about the size to hold the case / a TV screen, and comes apart for transportation...I'll try and get the measurements of it if you're interested... 10 quid plus P & P for that one if you want it.

Sarah, am I right in saying you are going fully laptop based and the CD-G drawers will be a backup system ? So you will be leaving the CD's and CD-G discs in the van just in case ?

An option which springs to mind would be to get a Giraffe/Rhino/Aardvark/Womble/Other animal based stand cheaply, and use either cloth or the spandex effort Deltic showed us as a frontage. The extra width would give you room for the laptop at the side.

I'm presently struggling with getting my laptop above my playout case, and I fear the answer may be a trip to the shed, and a mig welder! If nand when it's done, I'll post piccies. The urgency for it may increase soon, as I've a rash of bookings where it would be helpful.

The KamKase has arrived, would serve my needs perfectly but I just can't imagine carting this about, especially at an upstairs gig.

I haven't even loaded it yet and the weight is unreal.

I think I'm gonna have to send it back!

There are cases made of a lighter material. Snag is, it's more expensive. :(

I've nudged one user of them for a link, or advice. Let's hope he's not glued to the footy.

Only 8 over 2 , but.............I have one and is loaded with a denon 4500 , denon x-500 , and a 2U SD back up player under , looks heavy but at a push a one handed lift.

Thanks Daryl, I've spoken to Mike today.

Ideally I'd like a sliding laptop shelf too.

I'm gonna go and have a look at the C.D 19 PC and consider carrying my back up dual CD+G players in a Peavey flight sleeve I have and just keeping it "under the table" for back up.

Back to the fridge for a smooth and back to the tele to hope these lot can pick up the pace, lol!

See post #3... I did warn you :D If I was you I would be quoting distance selling regulations and sending it back.

Flight cases protect your stuff but they are a bind in this respect.

If I were you I would keep your current case and stick a spare mixer in there with your CDG players. That's your backup.

Then I would get a CD19PC kamkase

... and stick your mixer in, with a blanking plate in front and velcro your controller to it (2u probably).

You will have a few U to play with under the laptop shelf where you can mount a radio mic receiver or something.

It's still heavy when loaded but bearable for one.

This is it in use, behind a booth, to give you an idea what looks like in use. You need a fairly deep stand to be able to use all rack space and slide the laptop all the way back. The booth is not that deep and tapers in, but it works for me.

I've lifted Hysis 2's, Peavey amps the lot. I should have looked properly at the weight and measurements. You did warn me but I must be getting owld (33 last week)

I wouldn't care it's a top hand bit of kit.

I'm gonna have a serious look at what you've now suggested (after the match)

i have always found most cases to be heavy even unloaded.

my solutions were quite easy i either use two cases or if everything has to go in one case,do what i did have a word with somebody like swan flight at sedgfield who will build you a custom case using astroboard which is much lighter but maybe not quite as strong.

i had some cases built using astroboard and they have been excellent.

Swanflight are very reputable, I seem to remember a local D.J whom I admire very much, telling me they'd custom made his case.

I'm a mere 10 miles from Sedgefield too, although I think they only operate on line now.

My only problem with Swanflight, and I have not owned one, but my understanding is that the laptop shelf needs be to full extended before it locks in position. Without that it keeps sliding forward which was a problem for me as I did not have the room to fully extend it.

Incidentally when I was giving this KamKase the once over today I was quite surprised that the laptop shelf was able to slide all the way up and off!

I didn't break open the fixing screws packet mind as I thought I'd have to reluctantly send it back due to the weight.

Don't know if anyone can clarify this with the KamKase products.

Don't fancy the ole Vaio flying!

There is a piece of metal on a screw that folds out and stops it sliding off, however if you force it, it fold the metal back round and it will come off. The reality is that if it is behind a booth or stand you will not likely get the shelf back far enough to slide off anyhow. My shelf also does not move that freely because once you have loaded the case with mixer etc it messes up the alignment slightly. This is a good thing though because you don't want the shelf sliding about too much.

Probably no help to anyone on this thread, but I went out to the shed yesterday and got the mig welder and the angle grinder out. I'm modifying the old giraffe stand to become a two foot one with a laptop shelf. Piccies when it's finished.

I seem to need 2u x 6u x 2u with a laptop sliding shelf.

One thing I am wary of too, is I prefer to use cabled mikes for karaoke and I wouldn't want a laptop shelf hindering the leads.

Think I'll ring Swanflight after I take the bairn to school.

Knowing the layout of the KAM mixer you're using, I can't even suggest that you become a disciple of the Firkle Free School*. Since all the mic inputs are on the top, that's tricky. Not impossible, but tricky.

I won't be restricted in how far I can open the laptop shelf so if I can manage to find a case that gives me a few u to spare I can mount the mixer as low as possible.

Once the mics are in they wouldn't need to be taken out either if the laptop shelf did end up covering them.

I just need to get to the volume sliders on the mixer.

In going virtual I want to cart less about. Leave back up in my vehicle, yes, but still have something wired in and ready to go until I went for that back up.

I'm now looking at the Sunfly Pro 888 for this very task.

So, I'd be looking for a case that can accommodate

2) sunfly pro 888 (giving drawer access)
3) sliding laptop shelf

5) DJIO and Hard Drive (out of sight in the back)

Why not just get a second laptop as backup? Then you won't need a bigger case and therefore add extra weight? A second DJIO in to the back of the mixer and you have instant live backup.

There are lots of reasons that I'd need to be able to play C.D and C.D+G discs for now.

The sunfly 888 machine looks a good combination of sources. It will be lighter than my now dual C.D+G players and hopefully space saving too. I've seen it for £89.

A 2nd laptop will be a while away just yet but I can see how it makes sense but I can't afford 2 laptops yet.

I've been on the Swanflight website and seen the Xone 3D/4D PCDJ case sliding shelf.

Will that work with my kit list please?

None of those have space for your sunfly though. Could that not be housed elsewhere in a separate case?

With the swanflight, it might be worth discussing the lock out and sliding of the shelf. I suspect it might not slide in the way once it has the weight of the laptop on it ...
