Fair enough - but you still didn't need to be offensive - next time you ask for help, people may not be so inclined to assist. This has always been a friendly forum where we do our best to help where we can. You will see that I've made almost 2500 posts on here, and always do my best to offer advice and assistance where I can.Ok I got the wrong end of the stick on this occasion- but to be honest, you didn't really explained what you were on about, although I now know, after following Alex's link.

I didn't inerpret the reply as offensive, as you clearly didn't know what dj-jaym was on about Pete. Admittedly it would've helped if things had been explained a bit more clearly in the original post.

Thinking back, I got a call from a charity type publication thing a few days ago, might well have been them. A good trick I find is - say “Do you have my address?” To which they will invariably reply yes if they have got it from YP, then say “Excellent, well, sorry I am rather a busy at the moment but if you can send me an information pack I will be more than happy to look at it” etc… If they are legit, expect something through the post. If not, don’t.

I have had about 8 calls or so through about advertising in a local publication. Guess what. No information pack as yet!

Did these guys phone you out of the blue?? Cause they are con-men, they sweet talk you about a free ad in wall planner. They tel you it's for charity - Childrens Research fund. Then they send you an invoice for it. They record all their calls and try to catch you out in paying them money.

One guy called Andy tried to waffle on that I placed an ad back in Feb and I owed them money but I had never dealt with them. So after a heated phone call I told him to **** Off! He then lost his rag and called me several names and said that the childrens research fund would now lose out on money. :mad:

I phoned the charity director and he said that Hamilton Forbes were a third party and he was not aware of the way they scammed people using his name. After a lenghtly phone call I gathered that he was in on it as he seemed very reluctant to do anything. :mad:

After a goggle I discovered that these guys have been targeted many times by OFT but simply close down and reopen with different name and then continue. :mad:

Tell them you are contacting the Merseyside Police and OFT. (they are based in Liverpool)

i was conned not by these but in a similar way last year they wrote to me telling me their legal team was now handleing things ...... so i wrote back and said no problem so is mine and gave them my mates address who is a solicitor and said all correspondance was to go to him in future...... needless to say 13 months on he still hasnt recieved anything?

Guy's, the answer is easy. One of these "Charity Wallplanners" rang me, had a chat and I suggested they went forth and multiplied. A few months later a lady from accounts rang me, as they were going to print and needed a card payment or a cheque sent first class, I asked what was she talking about, and so the conversation went on, she said I had agreed, so I asked for my Purchase Order Number, so that I could cheque the records, a little pregnant pause, followed by, Why would we have one of those, simple, when my company purchases anything - Advertising to paperclips, a Purchase Order has to be raised to allow payment - well you get the idea.

This happened to me recently, but not with a wallchart.

They insisted that I had advertised with them the year before and my renewal had come up. They also told me I'd paid by credit card and they had my details.

I insisted otherwise.

Companies that operate this way disgust me.

One of the cardinal rules of business - Never ever buy anything without a Purchase Order, yep, more paperwork, but it may protect your backside at some point in the future. Also it makes life a little easier for your accountant at the end of the year as well.
