Does anyone use these projectors anymore? The sound-activated Animator version with a line wheel still looks good in a smokey room!!!(poor mans laser!) :)

Back in the day they were the dogs dangly bits, brilliant for a back-drop effect- they come up on ebay quite a lot, but usually very expensive.

ah, it's me, the Comeback Kid showing his age again!! I still have a soft spot for the old-fashioned oil wheel (plus Brian Auger's "Fire" plus a pint of Tartan plus girls with long hair wearing mini-skirts plus....)

I still use 2 oil projectors, not the opticonetiks though, i bought a couple of Magna's they use the same oil wheels so its interchangable.
I find them very good for theme nights or as a background projection. Mood lighting that kind of thing. Plus you can leave them on all night.

i had chauvet zx-20lq's which were a modern take on an oil projector with a kind of flower dish. brilliant for putting colour onto pale walls, only getting rid of mine cos they look odd compared to rest of my show now. check em out of dfb website

They still are the 'dogs dagly bits'. Whirl-y-gig still uses 50 Solar 250's and 4 Solar 575's with 4 Optikinetics strobeflowers. We do this once a month in London.

Still use them quite regularly.

The wavy line effect as mentioned previously looks great in a smokey environment. Hate the oil wheel effects tho.

Most commonly tho, i get slides made. Have a set of slides with my logo on it which can be used for advertising. Also, particularly at weddings, I get slides made up with the bride and groom's name on it that i can project around the place - either static on the wall, spinning, or scrolling around, adds a nice touch i think.

Anybody selling any solar 250's or similar as I'm wanting a pair to replace my very aged and knackered one.
