Halogen light duty cycle?

Hi,
I've got two soundlab vastos that I sometimes use and was wondering what the duty cycles are on these? I use them for a long time but they get VERY VERY hot after about an hour..will this damage them? It looks like the wire is the heatproof wire..(got a material covering) much appreciated!

As far as I recall, the Vasto does not have a cooling fan and the lamp is 12v/50w capsule type so it's not surprising they get hot ;). As long as you keep them away from direct contact with flammable materials and plenty of air circulation around them they should be fine.
Suffice it to say at around £2 each, a stock of spare lamps would be prudent.

From my experience with them, they can be left on all week. :D

No, that's frivolous, but I used a pair of them for many many years, and had no problems with running them all night. Follow Kernow's advice, don't move them till they've cooled, don't touch the glass with fingers, and you're in business.

Thanks very much! That's a relief! Got a small(ish) marquee party coming up in two weeks..I'm looking forward to it as its for good friends and they have a good track selection :)

Just don't be tempted to alter the specs of the lamps, a friend of mine many years ago tried to replace the 50w with 100w :eek: . Disastrous !, smoke and smell of burning everywhere and he overloaded the internal transformer which burnt out rendering the whole unit scrap. ;)

(p.s you might want to put the missing 'n' into 'Lymington' in your profile ? ;) )

No I'm won't! Don't want to blow anything up!:D what kind of volume would you recommend for a marquee gig? It's for my parents good friends

I have had a couple of these lights from new, a good few years, the original intructions, said duty cycle "15 min on, 5 min off"

Did you avide by those instructions? Just seems like a very short length of time to use the light for?

I still use Vasto's - I love them. I switch em on at the start of the night and off at the end (and for First Dances etc) and they work week in, week out. Just (as has been said) don't touch them till they've cooled.

Indeed :confused: I've got strobes with a slower on/off rate ;) :D

I only really use them for first dances, mine have a white reflector, so only on a few a short time, I have used them throught out the night when I first got them, but always toggled them with other lights through out the night.

Oh that's good! I was thinking they would get so hot they may catch fire! They beat any of my cheap LED lights I have bought!

No not modified, they came with a white and coloured mirror that are interchangeable. Well going by what others have said about letting them run all night, they might be ok to leave them on, but, the manufactures would not put the duty cycle advise in the manual for no reason, I wouldn't have thought. Just say the worst did happen and it did catch fire and spread, what would you say to your insurance co, "oh I ignored the manufactures usage advise, because loads of other DJ's said its ok to leave them on" I know that may seem extreme, but you never know what could happen, better safe than sorry.

Yes that's a very good point, I really don't want something like that happening! I will just leave the LED lights on all night and turn the vastos off and turn that lasers on..
