Can someone please tell me if it's possible to use an alternative email address in the Gmail app.
I have a gmail address, but i've set Gmail up so I can send from my own domain.
So, is it possible, does anyone know?

You can setup Google Apps for Business (http://www.google.com/enterprise/apps/business/) on your domain, which involves pointing MX records to Google servers etc. etc.
This isn't the same as simply putting a different address in your GMail. It means Google (GMail) handles all the email on your domain. I think the free use starts at 10 users (http://www.google.com/enterprise/apps/business/pricing.html) but you have to pay if you want or need more than that.

Does your webhosting not include free website email?
If so then use the Email app rather than the Gmail one.

Ignoring the Gmail app, there should be another app called email that is configurable with either pop3 or imap.

I've got 7 POP3 email addresses set up on the Email app on my Samsung and it works a treat. The only problem I have that one of the addresses gets a lot of spam sent to it (deliberately I might add!) and another is used to receive large attachments. As I'm on a limited monthly data package (I get 250mb included), downloading the emails to my phone can eat up my allowance before the end of the month. For this reason, I now only check my emails for my other accounts using the mobile network. For these two accounts, I only use wifi to download the emails. Now that I know this, my bills are a lot lower!!
