My son is a bit of a tech freak. He is looking to upgrade his sound system in his bedroom so though would be an ideal xmas present. He does not have the room for a 'DJ style setup' (this is in the conservatory :) ).

Currently he uses a Samsung Surround Sound DVD system, but really likes the look and sound of the Bose Companion 3 http://www.bose.co.uk/GB/en/home-and-personal-audio/digital-music-solutions/computer-speakers/companion-3-speaker-system/ . Whilst the sound for a bedroom is great the problem is the lack of inputs.

Off the top of my head he has - Dvd, Sky, Computer, input for laptop/ipad, Projector, X-box, PS3 & Ipod to be connected, obviously all not at the same time but would rather not keep unplugging and plugging in certain things.

Any suggestions on either an input device to run with the bose or a totally different system which is capable of allowing so many connections (Also preferably remote control). As I say space is quite tight so not really looking for a DJ style mixer.

A mini mixer or some sort of audio switch. Also the Bose systems are a bit meh. Better out there for less cash.

Have a look at the spirit notepad. The actual footprint of this unit is small.

I used to do a small pub disco on a Saturday night and I used to use the powered version of this mixer - the Soundcraft Spirit Powerpad. It was the smallest mixer I've ever encountered but it was a real workhorse and we did a good job in there. Ah, happy days! :)

I have a small disco setup in the conservatory for him consisting of mixer, bass bins, playout etc, but really looking for something more 'homely' and preferably remote controlled.

I've come to the conclusion that 3/4 input A/V switches are quite cheap (and possibly of "cheap" quality, too!). And whilst googling multi-input A/V switches, I've found everything in the price range of £3 up to £24,995!!

But I do like the look of this device which acts as the hub for all your A/V devices:

http://www.atlona.com/ATLONA-10-Input-Scaler-and-Switcher-with-a-Single-HDMI-Output.html

The unit costs under £600 but I can see that being a decent investment and it was certainly save time and the wear and tear that comes with keep plugging/unplugging devices which puts strain on both cables and sockets.

Might be worth checking out in a bit more detail!

If you can stretch the budget a little, have a look at the Bose Companion 5. It's a much more substantial system than the Companion 3 and has a 'punchier' sound.

As has already been suggested have a look at a small mixer unit such as this one from Soundcraft...

Plug everything into there and then just link in to the line in on the Bose.

Cheers

Why not just get a decent AV amp. Any decent ones will have plenty of hdmi and other inputs..
