Dead external Hard drive

Major problem had a blue screen of death on my main pc earlier the one with my external hard drive with all my music on for the disco.

rebooted pc all seemed well apart from windows couldn't find the external hd. the lights are on but no one home.

tried on my lap top same story

tried a different cable same story

phoned a friend recommended I took it out the caddy and installed in my pc same story.

pc wouldn't boot have had to reinstall windows on my main pc.

Hard drive (no words to describe) no music other than what i have on cd. (no gigs for a few weeks due to the day job) new external hd on the way and old one off to a friend to see if he can take it apart and recover.

I'm horrified im praying my friend can recover my music some how.

the moral of the story I guess is back up and back up and back up

Order 2 external HDDs and have one as a backup - better still order 3 and use 1, take a spare and leave one at home.

I have a (tower) home pc which i use as a base station, with all my music and documents stored, i use a laptop to dj, with a spare lap top as back up and carry an external hardrive and keep a hardrive at home...lol, i think that's what they call belt and braces !!

Sounds great, similar to me, but when it comes to backing up its a different story :D :D

I too have a base PC at home with my music on it and also my micro pc i use when gigging with the same mirrored music on it. If the inevitable should happen I still have my cd wallets and ipod for emergency use.
