Arrgh!

After six weeks chasing, communicating, discussing T&C's etc with a Father of the Bride today I get an interesting email

Client : "You may have heard the venue has moved from Warwickshire to Essex, how does this affect our arrangement?"
Me : "A lot! We longer no longer have an arrangement!"

Ok, so I was a lot nicer (that's the kind of guy i am), but I can't take it on.

Anyone else had a gig move over 120 miles further away?

Surprised you cancelled it. I travel more than that to quite a few gigs each year. I would have just added on £100 to cover mileage costs.

I've got in written in my T&Cs that a venue change constitutes a major alteration to the contract although I will accept change of venues where the new venue is within 5 miles of the original one. Anything beyond that then we need to agree a new contract where additional mileage / travel time costs are included.

I certainly wouldn't just add on extra for mileage costs - to me it would need to be a new agreement. I don't really think any client will just say "Ok, I'm happy to pay £100 more". You can bet your life you'd in for some serious haggling!! :eek:

If it was a weekend I would have considered it, but it was a Wednesday night and I work full time, so getting home at 3am or beyond is not really an option. It also involved uplighting which would added time at both ends of the day and that would have needed to go in before the wedding breakfast ideally.

I once had a gig move from Bonchurch on the Isle of Wight to Alexandria in Dunbartonshire, some 475 miles (and a ferry ride) :o

Needless to say they had to find themselves another DJ :D

Oh, and I kept the NRBF as the move was only about 2 months before the wedding and I'd been booked for over a year. :beer1:
