Which nikon DSLR

Well my trusty old Fuji S5 pro is going , time for a new camera body , but what.....

The contenders are
Nikon D5100
Nikon D90
or at a push Nikon D7000

Now before everyone stars shouting Canon , I have over £5000 of Nikon lenses, so a change of brand is out of the question , the D5100 and D90 come with a standard 18-55 VR lens , the D7000 comes as a plain body , there are pros and cons to each body , whatever I choose , I will have to get either a new Sigma 30mm f1.8 fast lens , or If I am lucky , pick up a 50mm F1.2 Nikkor ( wishful thinking....:D ).
Anyone here own one of the above ??

Have you checked out Park Cameras? They often have very good deals available as well as white box items which have been part of packages but the customer hasn't wanted them.

The wife has a D5100 and she absolutely loves it, it replaced a D40X, D90 is getting on a bit now.

The wife has a D5100 and she absolutely loves it, it replaced a D40X, D90 is getting on a bit now.

The D5100 has one major flaw , it rely`s on the lens having the auto focus motor in the barrel , the body contains no motor , therefore rendering half my lenses manual only , no big deal for most photography , but now and again vital.
Here is the problem.
The D5100 does 80% of what I want , but it is a very small body , I am used to the Fuji with battery pack , and before the Nikon F4 film camera.
The D90 does 85% of what I want , bur as you rightly say , it`s getting a bit old now , and the D5100 beats it on some counts.
This leaves the D7000 , does everything I need , but ,. and its a big but , at £700 - £800 just for the body + a few hundred for a lager aperture prime lense , the price is knocking on the door of £1000 , I would be publicly flogged by my misses , and fed to the cats......:eek: .

I have and use the D5100 and love it :) - it has had some great reviews also in various photography mags.

I'm still learning loads, as the Nikon D5100 was/is my first venture into the DSLR arena :)

I guess you want to use it with existing lenses?

I'm looking to get either the Fuji X-Pro or the Canon EOS-M in the next couple of months, mirrorless compact SLR's...

Well that settle`s then...................

After hours and hours looking at reviews asking a few dealers and pulling my hair out.

I dismissed the D7000 purely on the cost.
So I was left with the D5100 and the older D90 , as it happens . My local John Lewis store had them both , so I took a visit and held therm both , and as much as I like the D5100 , and on spec it was the better camera , the body was so small , I was trying to think what it would look like with my nikkon 300mm f 2.8 on....:eek:
So I brought the D90....:D
