View Full Version : What lights on your tripod t-bar?

Hi guys

I am looking to possibly go down the tripod t-bar route for my lighting, and have a couple of questions for those who have moved away from crossbar lighting. The reason being to try and have all the lights on the bar on a permanent basis. Therefore making setting up faster.

(1) are you able to get enough lights on your t-bar to do a full disco ie a wedding or a 21st birthday party and what do you use?

(2) if not what do you take in addition to your t-bar lights?

I am possibly looking to have too many on the t- bar, it just looks really messy!

I am trying to have: 2x American DJ Sparkles 2x slimline cans 1 x laser 1x small gobo projector and I am looking at putting an impossibled on! (even writing this I know it is too much!!!)

Thanks in advance

Laser, 2 Swarms, Mirror Ball. 2 Moving Heads off the T Bar plus 2 LED pinspots for the Mirror Ball.

Does me for 95% of the work I do.

Thanks for that. How many of those travel on the T Bar, and how many do you have to attach when you get to the venue?

I take them all off for transport and storage- the Swarms could stay on - Mirror Ball less so.

Ok, thanks for that.

I am trying to get to a situation where all or most of the lights would travel on the bar.

Thanks Mike.

I think I was probably the first one to take the "just Powerbar" leap of faith in about August of 2010 ;)

Never looked back.

No I just use powerbar. Its simple and very quick..I still use other lights if i got the time but most now days are just powerbar, I do find the stand which comes with powerbar is not great cause of the height but i brought a new one which goes heigher than my led curtains

Thanks for that guys.

It is a work in progress for me, but I am worried that if I went out with just four cans it would be like going out without my trousers on :D

I really need to see one of these powerbars in action. Cos I can't get my head around a wash only light. I have it's baby brother the Kambar a really good light, But we always stick a laser and sometimes maybe a couple of LED dotty moving lights on the top of it when we do take it out. Just so there's a bit of movement on the floor and around the room;) ;)

But there is a hell of a lot more djs going out with just that now;) ;)

4 x American DJ X-Scan LED Scanner Plus
on 2 TBars.
(These are no longer available and have been replaced by the inno scan model).

I am working on my own power bar at the moment. It will only have two par cans and will have a couple of lights to give a bit of movement on the dance floor.

I always thought the key was to be unique with your set up - there's hundreds of small and compact lighting products out there.

Choose the products that suit your 'show', its easy enough to pre-wire a t-bar these days, and buy a flightcase to keep the whole lot in.

+2, except mine's got a different badge to Paul.

It is somewhat of a leap of faith, but I too have used Powerbar only at many of my functions. My preferred rig has a couple of lasers as well, but that only goes out when I have the overhead on the DSB, as I can't get them on the tripod yet. ( Though I'm working on that )

Alzheimers kicking in ? You have done dear boy, you have done. At Darlington when you were " showing us yours". Andy and I were trying to control my bar with a CA8 ( UC3? ) controller, and the comment was made there about lack of movement.

It is a trifle difficult to accept that we're using something roughly equivalent to the spotboxes and Zero 4000 we had thirty years ago, though. :D :D

I am working on it :) But i want the whole thing to travel with the lights on it, rather than having to disconnect each light at the end of the night.

I'm really interested in this too.

If the powerbars are so bright are any additional lights eg lasers or LED's noticed anyhow?

I envy just how tidy and symmetrical those powerbars look not to mention the setup and strip down times, but do worry about lack of movement around the room, especially on the dance floor.

As long as you take care pointing them in the right direction, yes. I find lasers work well with them, LED fixtures, well unless they're the newer bigger 20-50w ones, probably not as well.

As to lack of movement, well you can achieve this by picking certain programmes on the unit.

For those hellbent on adding lights to a powerbar, on the Stairville model it's possible to fasten small and lightweight fixtures on the top of it with the knobs provided which fit the threaded holes. I think similar things are possible with some of the KAM offerings ( but I'm fairly sure not all )

I myself have a cunning plan ( which is unlikely to ever come to fruition ) involving the Ultimax uprights, two Powerbars, a piece of flat metal, and a big laser. ;) :D :D )

Hi Sarah. It doesn't have to be a shop bought power bar as someone on here has shown. My one will be a T-bar with two par cans which will be DMXd so will be as bright as is required for each venue.

The very one Andy! Comparing it to mine, yours looks very neat. My one needs a bit of fine tuning and it will have extra lights on it.
