Set up a big rig with additional lighting in a massive barn this morning at the Equestrian stables. Got up early because I thought it would be easier and cooler and I was wrong. At 10.30am it said 75 degrees on my phone.
I've taken a small fan with me.
DJing from 8.00pm - 01.00am and it will be shorts and a t-shirt tonight. Been told that the girls may wear bikinis!....Ahem..

I'm the driver for Steve today as no parking any where near the gig. Actually, even worse than that: no vehicles allowed any where near the venue (even though it's possible), so everything carried / on trolleys across COBBLES then up to first floor function room.

Traffic wasn't exactly great on the way down; then the wheels on the trolley hit a rut on the cobbles and kit went flying; in another incident, Steve twisted his ankle and went sprawling (now has swollen ankle and bruised palms); and to top it all off, despite having met with the venue manager to discuss everything beforehand, they didn't leave enough room to set up in and have placed tables all the way to the front! Then on the way back, I had bad traffic, with Olympic lanes still apparently in operation, and several road closures with no diversions in operation.

So, all in all, it's taken 4-4.5 hours to set up a gig in sweltering heat!

He's actually fine. He's got a couple of hours to chill in the sun in a beautiful location before he starts work, and he's sharing tonight with both a band and a solo singer, plus it's another gig with music different to the norm, so he's looking forward to that too.

I doubt he's looking forward to the pack-down and out afterwards though! :eek:

I've got a night off so I've been getting some beer in. Not strong stuff but tasty and refreshing once chilled! ;)

Despite what the oldies (or parents as they are sometimes known!) are saying, I've found it really quite warm today so I do feel for those who have to work in suits and ties in hot and stuffy venues in the heat tonight. When it's all over, you should all treat yourself to a nice cold drink or two! ;)

I had a wedding on the Southern Comfort paddle boat Friday night and as we sruised the river and braods the gentle breeze came in the fully opened windows. Last night was different with a 30th in a hall with no fans but at least I had the 12" table fan with me.

Well that'll teach me to open my big mouth!

The air-con turned out to be 18 inch fans (3 of them) & nothing else. It was like a bloody furnace in there!

On the bright side, I found a nice little (cheap) pub with no tourists showing the SA v Argentina 4 Nations match. Not bad considering I was only a 10 min walk from the Tower of London.

Got the van right up to the entrance for the load out. Took matters into my own hands & had a word with dock security. No probs as long as you're quiet loading.

Beats being a black box for hours on end with one pishy air con... With 8 birdies, 4 Source 4 Pars, 2 500W floods and a 500W fresnel plus 60 people is horrible. Just standing in it is enough to make you sweat buckets. Doesn't help is like the med up here... Arghhh.
