HipHop and Rap what say

Just wondering, how many of you really like HipHop and Rap. The kids are mad for it these days. I must admit I cant stand most of it, but the client gets what they want.

When will this craze end I wonder, if ever. Hooooope so. :thumbs_do

was there when it began and its has gone into overdrive now and meshed with all types of music so its here to stay really

currently its out of favour with house coming back a storm but still ok to play at night start

afraid its title has changed from hip-hop and rap to just R & B with all the rest under the URBAN tag wish people would stop messing with genre names rap is hip-hop as well as loads of others messed about with but yes its very in at the moment still but normally spring to summer is its strongest season

Yeh it's here to stay!!
I like it alot, although prefer the commercial / cheesy hip hop/rap (if it can be classed as that) to the heavy stuff.

It's the biggest selling type of music in the world (so I thought) - probably down to Americans!!

But it's far from out of favour, is it Badger?

If anything, it's bigger than ever this year! Just looking at the MW (national chart) for a couple of weeks ago, and you've got Justin, Nelly Furtado and Fergie all in the top 5 (and sorry Shakira's up there too at No.6)

These charts prove that as a genre, R&B/Hip Hop/Urban is bigger than anything else by far, just look at the percentage of tunes that crossover from MW Urban to the Nationals as opposed to MW Upfront (which includes all the House tracks you mention) to the Nationals

Also, I see all the requests sheets that we receive before they're sent out to the DJs - and believe me - there's about one house track requested for every ten R&B/Hip Hop/Urban tracks.

I cant stand it personally i think it sends out a very negative message to listeners and at times inappropriate message and uses expletives to appeal to the young who think "oooohh its got swearing in it how cool" then get into the underlying messages usually sexual or agressive. this is just my opinion sorry if it offends.

compared to 2 yeares ago there has been a 20% drop in urban music due to indie and funkyhouse music but I will agree with the fact that lots of ex school kids do ask for it 2 years on they have grown up with it over the last 10 successful years of urban music.

Just wish it wasn't so, hate to say this (black orientated) and was now more integrated with more creeds and multi Race types ie british caucasians obviously there has been exceptions with the likes of eminem and Vanilla Ice, but in general its still classed as MOBO which is so wrong in these times.. Its getting there very very slowly with the likes of say Lily Allen but has a very long way to go.

And the use of expletives/Innuendos is more understood to be reckonised with verbal street battle rapping but in general good clever rappers dont use the ie will smith, snoop dogg etc etc

Badger, please explain the 20% thing, and the source/s of this data.
Are you talking about the amount of tunes released, sales, radio play? What has tangibly reduced?

Dont like RnB, hip hop, rap.
Have to pley at times, if thats what they want.
Ok some times there a good number in there some where that we can use.
At a 40th last night and thats all they wanted I was surprised. So I guess it's here to stay.

I think one reason it RnB (inc commercial hiphop/rap) is so popular is that it's quite 'easy' to listen to and 'easy' to dance to.
