Popping this in chat, because, although it's business-related, it's not specifically disco-related.

We've often discussed the importance of replying quickly to enquiries, etc and how poor it is when people take ages to reply, well my experience in recent months of other wedding and event suppliers is absolutely amazing me!

By accident, I have found myself as the intermediary for a hotel to source just about anything and everything they need for their events, and so have been contacting lots of other suppliers with queries for specific events.

Around half haven't bothered replying at all, and the vast majority of those who have replied have taken so long to respond that I've assumed they're not going to reply!

The number who respond in (what I consider) a timely manor is so low, and the professionalism of replies received is appalling! I am truly in shock, and can't understand how most of these people remain in business.

Anyway, the point of this thread was just to highlight that it's not just the mobile DJ industry that generally has to raise it's game (present company excepted, of course :D), it's across the board!

I hope there were one or two who you found to be efficient and professional? ;)

I've had the same to be honest with certain things. When I was looking for a curtain 2 out of 3 companies didn't bother to reply.

I too can relate to this, asking local balloon companies for some infomation and quotes for a client, one took 3 weeks to reply, event was done by then!

I'm not surprised in the slightest. One of the reasons I quickly gave up on the idea of events management shortly after deciding to go full-time was the general lack of interest of other suppliers even when you effectively wave large wads of cash in front of their noses.

I'm not surprised by your find.

At a recent pre event meeting with a B&G. They commented that I was the only supplier they had booked that sent an email when the final payment was made. The Bride had to spend her time phoning around chasing it.

She was told by one supplier that "They were very busy and didn't have time to check!"

Dance floor hire company... Spoke to them in person at a venue, gave them the details on the back of one of my show cards......and still had to email a week later to chase the quote.

Last couple of clients who booked me started their replies with a 'thank you for your speedy response'. OK it's a polite way of opening but it's something they've acknowledged - and I have no idea how many other DJ's they've contacted, it may well influence some peoples decisions.
