Why Black speakers

With the exception of the odd white DSB and a few white speakers and scrims , why is everything black.
I am thinking about changing the color of my speakers to any thing but black , maybe a deep red (not skytec....;) ) , or a deep purple color , I mean I have a black front curtain , black uprights , black truss , black lighting ,(cases) , I suppose it is like all the earyl PC`s , all beige , but that changed.

There are only two 'colours' that won't clash with other colours: black or white (well, 3 actually, if you include grey). Any other colour will stand out more, and, depending on the style of venue, drawing attention to the kit might not be the best idea.

I'm not even sold on the white speaker idea. OK when new, but could look grubby and tatty in a relatively short time - especially with life on the road.

It's something I'd think long and hard before doing, Daryll, and you'd have to be very careful about it if you did go for it.

I assume its because it minimises the look of damage, scratches and marks which we pick up in Transit therefore the maintenance--black does not usually show marks ( especially black ones which are the worst usually on lighter colours) stains or drinks and food marks--all potentially hazards of the job.

You dont want to spend time dealing with all the necessary cost and repairs fixing that kind of damage.

Some speaker cabinets are covered in grey--probably same reason.

Also when the lights go down your lighting is more effective i guess--not being distracted by white speaker cabinets or light boxes--I mean casing of the light effects:D

You can have any colour---as long as its black--we have heard that before from Henry Ford:rolleyes:

I guess it might affect resale prospects if you need a quick sale--not many people might go for the idea so you restrict your potential market.

Bit like selling a very individual house in a difficult housing market--very hard.

Total agreement with your comments , white is a no no for me.
Blue Aran do a range of colors in the Tuff cab line , they do a red/black , a ghastly purple ( don't tell Mr Andrews of Funktion one...) , a deep blue and a deep green . however this paint could be tinted in any or the RAL colors .
I think giving it a deep color would not make the cab to "in your face" , but slightly different

I would have thought that speakers are traditionally black as they are not part of the visual attraction of a show and, therefore, don't need to stand out and be highly visible to the crowd. Black helps them "disappear" when the lights are low.

Personally, I don't like the white ones for the reasons that Angela pointed out - they go off-colour and lose their visual attraction quite quickly. I did once use a pair of red speaker cabs when I was doing the band promotion stuff but I wouldn't use them for discos.

Ive had Grey Speakers , Brown Speakers ,Orange Speakers
and Green Speakers.
But my current fave is Black Plastic ones!
It doent really matter when the Disco is operating in

In fairness though Dave, your set ups have never had the same aesthetic as somebody like say Darren or anyone who does high end weddings & you've readily admitted that isn't your target market.

I can remember demoing a glitter system in Disco supplies in Chadwell Heath, but sadly they were too expensive and it would have needed 2 of us to carry the consol on its own i think they did other colours as well
