Why are people so rude?

In the last week, I've had last minute enquiries for a 21st birthday, 16th birthday and dance floor who all wanted to book, so I checked to make sure we had availability and rang or emailed them back.

According to these people, they were urgent bookings and yet they didn't bother to email me or ring back and let me know.

Very frustrating! How long does a call or email take?

I think it depends on how many things they've left to the last minute to arrange and how many hundreds of operators they emailed after Googling for services.

How strange... just before coming on the forum and seeing this thread, I was thinking how nice and refreshing it was that a few of the last-minute enquiries I've had recently had taken the time to contact me even though they're not booking and volunteering the reasons why they've decided to book somewhere else (ie gone with a live band instead / had a recommendation from a friend, etc)

Most of the time it's just plain ignorance - but I can excuse people who have so much on their minds they let their please and thank you's slip (having worked in a shop I've found most are really apologetic when they realise they've been a bit rude).

But in this scenario I'd also expect a reply - even if it's a thanks but no thanks.

Another thing I can't stand is people going through doors and not looking behind them before letting it go - no excuse for that!

I had one 2 days ago. For some reason, this Saturday (29th September) is one of the busiest days of the year for me. I could have filled the date around 12 times but I have 3 on at present. Anyway, I got a call from a guy that said the usual in that he'd had trouble getting in touch with the guy he had booked for his daughter's birthday party and was beginning to get worried. I said I had no availability personally but would do my best to help him out. He seemed very thankful. I took his details and then contacted a couple of other local DJ's who I know well. One of them was free and considering the guy sounded desperate, my DJ mate has not heard from him. He has tried calling him too.

Sometimes it makes you wonder why you bother trying to help.

No wondering Gary, some of us given up bothering with them.

Having tried to help people on last minute gigs for 10 years I know invariably panic sets in and they become liars--ok if I can get you someone for x would that be acceptable type of conversation--believe me 99.9per cent just say yes to get you finding someone then as Jules suggests carrying on ringing round.

When you ring back thinking you have saved the day they say ---ohh we got someone else--BUT you said it was ok if we got someone for x--

I make no apologies for this--Our stock line now is--ring everybody else--if you get desperate ring us back.

We now wont leave home for an urgent gig unless theres a £100 deposit paid into our bank--take it or leave it.

To answer Darrens post yes in general since the Internet became the tool of our trade the punters are becoming more rude, unreliable and less trustworthy to deal with--fortunately we do still find a few worth dealing with.

I wouldn't leave home or expect anyone else to without full payment in my account.
